Were you required to be a SRNA before going into your schools nursing program?

I'm just being curious and asking this to see how things are done from school to school. Where I'm enrolled to start nursing school (Fall 2007), not only do you have to take the medicaid nurse aide class (CNA) but you also have to pass the state board test thing and be on the registry.

Is that the case for you?

Most community colleges in this area require it. I'm thinking that not all the 4 year colleges do.

Are you sure that you do not mean the STNA that they have in Ohio?

SRNA is what the nurses are called that are in CRNA programs. And they are already RNs with critical care experience.

No not at all. I haven't heard anyone in the other 2 local schools mention this either. I actually know for a fact that one girl does not have this yet she is in nursing school at a local community college.

This might be yet another way to create a shorter waiting list by having more requirements to get in.

I'm starting in the Fall and we don't have to, but starting with the next class after that, they will be required to be state tested for their STNA.

My CC does not require NA training, but my sister graduated from a CC in north Ohio and was required to get NA training. She said that it was because so many got into the program and then dropped cause they didn't really know what they were getting into.

No but after our first semester we were qualified to be on the state registry. I am a CNA but have never worked as one.

My school requires it, but I know of several people that have taken the class and have not yet taken the state exam for it. So it appears they are pretty lenient about it at my school. Not sure whether it is like that at other schools as well though.

Re: Were you required to be a SRNA before going into your schools nursing program?

I guess I should have clarified. Each state has different abbreviations for things and mine isn't any different! SRNA ---state registered nurse aide (something to that effect) aka CNA.

My school requires that you take the CNA class and then take the test to be put on the registry before you can go into the nursing program.
