Weird NYU Loop Hole?

My friend graduated from Binghamton and recieved a BS in Economics with a 3.3 gpa. He told me that NYU allowed him to apply as a transfer student to the accelerated program. For some reason he said that recommendations for OPTIONAL, so he didnt have any. He got accepted.., how is this possible? Or is the competitiveness really not that competitive?

It's not a weird NYU loophole. Someone who holds a Bachelor's degree in a completely unrelated field can apply to (and gain admittance to) any accelerated BSN program. Not something I'm in favor of, but there it is.

Re: Weird NYU Loop Hole?

I considered trying out for the accelerated BSN but the cost (65k+) scared me away. Since it's a 2nd BSN you don't get FA and NYU doesn't offer as many grants as Columbia does. I really really agonized over trying out for NYU but I couldn't stomach the thought of taking out that much in loans.

I have heard nothing but good things about NYU's program. I don't think it's a case of it not being a good program. I just think it's a case of having a much smaller applicant pool then a generic BSN program; the astronomical cost also don't help.

Most people want to go to CUNY because the tuition is about $1600 per semester at the 4 year schools and even cheaper at the 2 year. A private school like Philips Beth Israel is about 24K and some private schools cost less than that.

It's funny but CUNY requires more pre-req's and is harder to get into (get a clinical seat that is....for pre-clinical they accept everyone) than NYU.

Are you referring to non-loan financial aid? Because you can get Federal loans for ABSN programs. I'm in debt (AGAIN!!) but you can get Fed loans. I would guess most people don't consider loans financial aid.

Re: Weird NYU Loop Hole?

Yes, I am talking about non-loan FA.
