Lightbulb Teaching Plan

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me on my teaching plan on Nitroglycerin. I have to create a chart and teach the patient how the medicine should be taken. Does anyone have any suggestions please!!! Thanks

Re: Teaching Plan

You can find all kinds of consumer information on Nitroglycerin at many of the major drugstore websites (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) as well as the major medical insurance plans. I have a book called Memory Notebook of Nursing: Pharmacology & Diagnostics by Tom Gaglione, JoAnn Zerwekh, Jo Carol Claborn and C.J. Miller that is a collection of cartoons (kind of) that they put together from seminars they do for NCLEX preparation. On page 23 for Nitroglycerin they show tunnel workers clearing out the arteries of a heart. One is holding a flashlight as he examines the inside of one of the major arteries coming off the heart. He is saying "We need to blow this tunnel open and widen it for better assess. Send up the nitroglycerin!" The other worker is holding two sticks of dynamite. One has a short fuse and the dynamite is labeled "Quick-onset nitro 2-5 minutes IV". The other has a long fuse and is labeled "Slow-onset nitro 10-30 minutes SL, TO". In the bottom are two crates. One labeled "Quick" that contains sublingual tabs and translingual spray and the other labeled "Slow" that contains Nitro-Bid (patch), Nitro ointments and sustained release tablets. Just a possible idea to think about.

I'm assuming you are talking about Nitroglycerin sublingual. Here is a link to the page on Medline Plus to give you an idea of how they present this subject to the general public: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a601086.html

You can find other consumer drug information sites on these websites as well:

Re: Teaching Plan

This may be pointing out the obvious (though, it took me a while to remember to do it), but did you trying Googling it?

I had to do one a few weeks ago for administering an albuterol nebulizer treatment to a pediatric patient, so i googled all variation of those terms (teahing plan; nebulizer treatment; etc...) and was able to pull it all together and it came out great.

good luck =)
