Tablet PC in the classroom/Voice Activated Writing Software????

Does anyone use a tablet PC for classroom notetaking? I understand that you can write on it, as if it is a notebook and it automatically transcribes. Is it really benefical? I am thinking of purchasing one from Toshiba.

Also do you know of a software, that records your lecture from your laptop and automatically transcribes it???

I own a IBM X60 Tablet PC and love it! I am currently using it for my Microbiology class (final pre-req before Nursing school) and find it beneficial. I think it is a personal decision on whether you will find the tablet pc beneficial or not, depending on your needs.

You do take notes on it as you normally do with a paper notepad. Depending on your tablet PC configuration, you may need to purchase Microsoft's OneNote software in order to have this capability.

My tablet pc does include a built-in recorder. However, I use a digital recorder instead. Dragon Naturally Speaking software may offer the capability to convert audio into text format. I have not purchased the product or have any personal experiences with it, thus far. I think there may be other software that offers this feature too.

Thank you so much for your response. I was thinking of buying the Toshiba, they are so expensive tho. Then there is the HP. I had no idea that IBM has one also. I will look into it.

Thanks
