Hi, all.

Does anyone know of a website or other resource that lists hospitals that offer summer externships? I'd really like to get one lined up for this summer, but it's hard to find information on a lot of the hospitals' individual websites.

Anyone ever had a student externship? Did you find the experience beneficial? If any nurses are reading this -- do you find RN students in externships annoying? LOL. A friend of mine from school just landed a NICU externship at a major university hospital here...they've not had an extern in five years because they "don't want students touching their babies." Intimidating, no?

I lived in New Jersey for many years...Red Bank

I believe UMDNJ Newark has a program as does Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick.

If I had to choose I would go with UMD...I worked as an EMT in Newark and Irvington...this is the armpit of the world but the facility and staff are top notch. You will receive an education of a lifetime.

Jersey Shore Medical Center used to run a nursing program...hospital based with dorms, etc... Not sure if they have an extern program but I would call to check...great facility and trauma center -- Meridian Health System

If you come to Georgia - my present home -- North East Georgia Health Systems has a summer program and excellent facilities.

If you live near a veterans hospital call the nurse recruiter and ask about the VALOR program.

Also you can check out your local public health unit, if something non-hospital but still healthcare is in your mind as well.

They might be offering temporary positions to a couple of studens over the summer
