Question Question: Applying for Nurse Tech. position

I'm applying for a Nurse Tech position Monday (submitting my application) but I have a question - I love the place I work at now but it's not a job that will benefit me in my nursing career so I am wanting to get a job in a hospital - on the application, they want to contact my place of employment for a reference but they don't know I'm looking. I have nothing to hide, I've worked there for 6 years (the only place I have worked) with no problems or anything, also, this is the only place I have ever worked so if they (the hospital) want to know my work history, this is the only place to call. Do I let my current employer know I'm looking before I even get an interview or just not put the number on there? Thanks in advance for the help!
