Preceptorship- where are you going?

I am going to the ICU I am meeting up with my preceptor on Wednesday. It looks like I'll be doing some 12 hour Sunday shifts to get my time in. I need 80 hours in, is that typical?

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

We just do two per semester. We go to two separate units in the hospital and do 10 hour clinical days and that adds in to our total clinical time this semester. We also do a Home Health rotation that adds in. This semester I went to the GI/GU unit and also the Cardiac unit. I enjoyed GI/GU, didn't like Cardiac AT ALL!! All I have left now is my Home Health in the way of preceptorship. I hope you enjoy your time in ICU, that sounds very interesting!

I am going to Ambulatory Surgery and I have to do 80 hours. I have to call my preceptor to set up a schedule yet.

We have to do 120 hours. I get to go to the children's hospital, though I don't know what area yet. Only a few of us were chosen to go there and I'm psyched.

They wouldn't let us go anywhere but the ICU, ED, med-surg or Children's Hospital. They said that the course objectives couldn't be fulfilled in other areas such as the OR.

Weird. We can choose wherever we want to go. There was a list of places for ideas, but if we didn't want anything on that list, we could write-in some place.

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

In our final semester, we do 24 hours a week (two 12's) for 8 weeks -- so almost 200 hours.

I still have a semester to go before I hit my final semester, but I plan to do mine in the PICU or Pediatrics (whatever area they are able to accomdoate me in).

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

I'm doing my 120 hour preceptorship on a Cardiovascular Telemetry floor. My 1st choice was ER (which I was SOOOO ****** I didn't get), and I hate everything cardio related. However, I am happy to say that I'm really enjoying my preceptorship so far. The only thing that sucks is standing on my feet for 12 hours 2-3 times a week, but I guess that's something I gotta get used to if I'm gonna be a nurse

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

I am doing 120 hours in Postpartum! It was my first pick, so I am thrilled! It's hard to believe it's almost time to get pinned!
Congrats to everyone for doin' it!!!!!
