Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

Ours is only 56 hours. I will do mine next semester but I am kind of worried b/c something went wrong with the organization of the whole process for the class this semseter and they didn't have anywhere to place them (let alone getting to pick what you wanted). Now, they all wound up in the float pool! I hope they get it all figured out by next semester (needless to say)

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

wow i know at my school for our final semester (i guess thats called preceptorship) we get 32 hours a week for 13 weeks so a total of 416 hours

I guess I cant complain!!!

Well we dont get to pick where we go but most people end up doing some form of med surg or GIM...only a few get to do NICU, ER or surgery

for our 7th semester of clinical we do 16 hours a week for a total of 208 hours...still not too shabby

i dont mind doing med surg when the time comes though

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

I'm kind of shocked that some of you have to do so few preceptorship hours! Are yall in BSN programs??? We have to have atleast 240 hours next semester (spring 08). We don't have any classes though except for the first 6 weeks (some dumb leadership class), and then preceptorship and graduation!! WooHoo!!

I'm not sure where I'm doing mine yet, they haven't told us! I put down ER, ICU, and Progressive and then Med/Surg. I'll probably do med/surg because one of my clinical instructors hasnt sent in the recommendation form that I need (we have to have 3 rec's in order to do any speciality)... So we'll see!

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

Preceptorship is our last clinical rotation. We are set up with a preceptor( mentor)nurse, no instructor, for 80 hours on a specific unit. This does not include the 9 weeks of managamenet clinicals we had at the beginning of the semester with 7 other students and our instructor. Preceptorship is different than other clinical rotations at our school. Maybe that is where the confusion is.
It's our last transition to working on your own.

Yep, I'm in a BSN program. But my 120 hours of preceptorship are running concurrently with 4 other classes I'm taking (Peds, OB, Community, and Leadership), so I don't see how it would be possible to do an additional 120 hours on top of all that.

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

My first choice was ICU, then Stepdown, but there were so few preceptors that I am going to ER. Should still be fun. I'm hoping to be able to pick up IV insertion skills. We have 70 hours to do in 6 weeks. Is everyone graduating in December?

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

I'm in an ABSN program, and we do a minimum of 24 hrs/week for 8 weeks. So, I guess that's a minimum of 192 hours. Mine's not until fall '08, but right now I'm hoping ICU. I've got a long time to change my mind.

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

I'm going to be in the OR at a children's hospital. I have no idea what I'm going to do there for my preceptorship. It'll be a little odd because today I was offered and acccepted an internship there for February (YES! ). The management practicum is not supposed to be a training or orientation for the unit, but what is it really going to be? At any rate I'm psyched.

Re: Preceptorship- where are you going?

We got the option of ER, ICU, CCU, Recovery Room, Medical or Surgical. we have to do 130 hours over 8 weeks, then go to a rural hospital and do 40 hours doing various areas of that hospital. I'm doing the ER. Should be fun!

is that for one semester ? for your clinical time? if that is thank your lucky stars.... I just figured it out when I read your post each semester we do 240 hours of clinical time not including going to the hospital the day before to get our information and looking all our meds up. when I first started that alone used to take me 6 hours to do. Now I go early to the hospital and whip it out in an hour. for our program we do a total of 900 hours on the floor.
