Question? - Physical Examination Prereq
|
|
Hello all,
I'm new to the scene. I was just accepted on my first try..wasn't expecting it. As I'm looking over some of the papers, a few questions popped into mind.
Can you explain why the physical exam is a few hundred dollars? Is this price pretty typical or is this without insurance? Because it seems so expensive, what exactly do they do? Did you have to go to a specific doctor or clinic or does the student choose? I haven't had a physical in forever and it makes me nervous.
Thanks guys,
Altered

I don't know if it will be any help to you, but I think the couple-hundred-dollars is without insurance. At my school they gave me a list of everything I had to have done, and I went to my own doctor and gave him the list and he performed all of the services, which were covered by insurance. Then he gave me copies of all of the lab works and stuff, to attach to the physical sheet, and that was it. It was really no more detailed than a slightly-more-involved checkup. I don't know if yours requires blood work and urinalysis, but mine did, and that and a couple vaccinations were the only things out of the ordinary.

We could go to our regular doctor and it wasn't a big deal. Mine just did vitals and asked a few questions.
Congratulations on getting in!!!

I just got my physical this week and I think a major part of the expense is that insurance rarely covers immunizations for adults. You are best off to accept the fact that you are going to have to spend a lot of money to get through nursing school but it will definitely be worth it!

For my school they are apparently doing the physicals onsite using their own dr and the cost is included with tuition but I wonder if the cost of exam is something like the INS doctors where you have to use an "approved" one and they don't take insurance. I was so mad about that bc many of them were on my PPO list but had different office for the INS stuff an the INS office didn't do insurance but the regular one did even though it was the same doctor.

My insurance wouldn't cover a physical for school so I paid cash. It cost a lot because you need titers and a drug screen. The titers cost the most; at least they did for me (about $250). The actual physical was only $37.

To those who already had a physical examination, how long was the procedure?
