Question? - PHARM: Do you have to memorize the safe dosages for all the Meds?

Do they ask questions in the NCLEX about safe dosages for children, adult?

I dont know if there is a specific question on the NCLEX for this.. but I do know that you can be given a dosage calculation, but you'll have all the drug information in front of you and you will have to use the child's weight in kg or bsa to do your calculation. I don't believe you have to memorize the safe dose for every single medication.

I'd think that would be impossible to learn every single dose of every single med. I don't know anyone, including docs who do this.

You may have to calculate some dosages for the exam, but as said above, all the pertinent information will be given just like any dosage calc test.

Not even pharmacists know the dosages for every drug. Whenever I have ever called pharmacy for compatibility or dosage (if I'm worried about a dose I've been asked to administer)... the look it up... ALWAYS!

NCLEX will be more likely to ask calcs as stated by pp's.

You may get a question asking you to pick the medication & dosage that you might question. Usually it's very obvious, like a huge dose of Lasix.

Our pharm professor told us repeatedly that we do not need to learn dosages yet, but that if we return to the same school for grad level pharm they will be on every exam.
