I just started my LVN/LPN program about 4 weeks ago. I love it, its amazing and so much fun. But, I have a problem with laziness... getting out of bed, buckling down and studying, ect... anyone else have or had this problem? What can I do to overcome this? Help!!
I think I can understand what you are saying. I am basically a lazy person. If left to my own devices, I would little to nothing done in a day. So...what I do is stress myself a little bit: I try to overschedule things just a bit so that I am forced to be a little bit organized.
The diagnosis for your problem is not so much laziness as it is procrastination. I think we all have a touch of it. The first step in overcoming it is knowing that you are prone to putting things off. Then, you have to figure out strategies that will work for you to fool yourself. Still, there's no guarantee that they will always work because there is the "you" factor, meaning you have complete authority to override any strategy at any time. Here are a couple of websites that address procrastination. Maybe you'll find some helpful suggestions.
http://www.accd.edu/sac/history/keller/accditg/SSindex.htm - Strategies for Success, an online primer and tutorial on how to study for students from the Alamo Community College. This is a pretty extensive resource with links on the right side of the page to click into the following subjects: learning styles, note taking, memory techniques, time management, overcoming procrastination, SQ3R (a method for getting the most out of reading your textbooks), study tips, critical thinking, preparing for tests, and oral presentations.
I'm a HORRIBLE procrastinator and I have trouble paying attention for long periods of time (the three hour lectures are killing me :-o)
As far as procrastination goes, I put off doing fun things until I get something done. I won't let myself watch that netflix movie until I have my careplan done.
Or, I'll do it in little bits...I work MUCH better if I can get a section in the textbook read, then watch a half an hour of TV, then read another section, etc. If I have to sit down and read the book for five hours straight I get VERY irritable and it actually takes me LONGER.
