Re: ob theory

Not really insight, just more advice . . . don't be scared. OB has been my favorite so far! I know everybody says how hard it is, but it is just like all of the other classes, you don't know the information to start with, then you go in, they teach you, and you will learn. Everything is intimidating at first, but don't let people scare you away from it. Keep an open mind and go into the class expecting to enjoy it and you will have a much better outcome.

It seems like every new class is terrifying until you get into it. I was thoroughly panicked about RN year Med/Surg and I am actually doing very well in it and will be finishing it up next month - WooHoo!!! I have absolutely loved it and I started out scared to death. I think I've done this with every class. Our next one is psych after the holidays and, of course, I am worried about it too.

Just keep an open mind and remember, people have passed it before you and people will pass it after you, all you have to do is pay attention, put in the time, and enjoy the ride!!!

Best of luck - have fun, OB is a blast!!!

In a sense you are entering a new world. OB is much different than med/surg. Just take it slow and embrace it. It is definately worth it, as it is very interesting.

Re: ob theory

OB is a whole new world. It's not like your other rotations where the patients are sick. These are healthy women (usually) who are going through a natural process. There's lots of information to take in and process, but it's not as overwhelming if you don't let it be. I am half way through my OB rotation and we are just now getting into the complications in theory, and as exciting as it may be that there is something "wrong" now, you must understand what "normal" is.

Advice: keep up with the readings, do NCLEX questions from your study books over OB material, and ASK QUESTIONS. Most theory instructors as well as clinical instructors are teaching because they enjoy it, I'm sure they would be more than happy to help!

Good luck! I was surprised that I actually kinda liked this rotation (well, maybe just the newborn aspect, but better than I expected!)
