It is overwhelming the amt of $ - what I wish I had done as a new nurse was to have seen a financial planner - so I could get my bills paid, enjoy my income, but also have a plan for the future that was practical and relatively painless. Think about it

That's great tho that you are getting started w/ nursing more quickly this way - I hope you enjoy it! And the pain scale you mentioned in the other post? Some of them ought to get out of nursing, IMHO. I always told myself if I ended up hating what I was doing, for whatever the reason, I needed to get out - no patient should have to have a caregiver like that.

Good luck to ya and God bless you!
I am so thankful for nurses/mentors like you!
God Bless You as well!

I learned early on in clinicals to observe..learn what I could..and KEEP my mouth shut. It was too easy to get into trouble. Just get what you can out of it and be happy that it doesnt' last forever.

I am not a nursing student yet. I am pre-nursing and I have applied for the August enrollment at my school.

Would an instructor flunk you or give you a bad grade if you stood up to him/her? I would be tempted to tell the instructor (away from the other student nurses and patients) that constructive critism is welcome, however, outright abusive behavior isn't and will not be tolerated.

Yeah I wish you luck with that approach.

Unfortunately, these kinds of statements will only get you in even deeper with instructors who are on power trips like this. It stinks and it's wrong, but the most you can do is grin and bear it.

I would not recommend doing that.

It was very hard for me to learn to shut my mouth, but I have, and feel its the only reason I have made it... or well after next month, will have made it.

Teachers have made me cry. Went all out with criticisms calling me nothing short of stupid in front of other students... and so on. If I can just shut up, and remind myself that this person can get rid of me if they really wanted, then anyone can!

Sadly I actually found this post comforting. The same thing occurs here in our hospital (although I must say that many nurses are excellent, its just that the unpleasant ones can leave you ready to cry). Unfortunately, the biggest things I leaned here are to keep my mouth shut, don't stand up to a nurse / doctor, and pray to make it through. I know that attitudes change when you are no longer a student (although it's still there to some extent when you are the "new girl"). The end is drawing near for me and I hope that I will soon feel part of a team as a staff member. I just keep reminding myself of why I am here... the patients
