Need Information - Nursing Student Health Insurance

Hello all,

I am starting Nursing school at National University in San Diego in 2 months. I just got another information packet that said in addition to my malpractice insurance I must also have health insurance. The University does not have a student health insurance plan. With money being tight these days and waiting tables to pay the bills, health insurance is not given to me through work and is rather expensive to buy. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get health insurance which will cover me if I:
- Need emergency assistance in the event of a needle stick
- Will cover anti HIV drugs if conditions are warranted.

I have lived without health insurance for years so i just need the emergency coverage for now. The cheaper the better!

Please send me any information that you might have!

Thanks
Bryan

Re: Nursing Student Health Insurance

Look on ehealthinsurance.com for some cheap insurance coverage. I had catastrophic insurance coverage for a bit but it only covered accidents such as broken leg, trauma from a car accident or the like. I got a policy through one of the companies on ehealthinsurance and while it has a higher deductible the monthly premium is low. That way I am protected should an unexpected illness arise. I had a scare a few months back where I could have had community acquired MRSA and I thought if I had to be hospitalized, that catastrophic insurance wasn't going to cover it.

If you have no preexisting conditions health insurance is not expensive, dont buy the hype.

Buy directly from the company. Dont go through a middleman. I bought my familiy's policy direct from United Health Insurance.
