Question Nursing School grades

I know not to expect to keep the same grades that I had in my pre-req's. What is the normal grades you get in nursing classes. We have to have at least a 78 to pass each class. My only problem is that I have to keep a 3.0 to keep my ACT scholarship. I have bad grades from years ago and right now I only have a 2.94 overall GPA. Has anyone made A's in nursing..
God Bless,
Mary Ann

Re: Nursing School grades

Like you, I had bad grades from earlier in my college career due to my being ill.

I had less than a 1.0 at one point, but now I have a 3.23. I got three A's my first semester of nursing school and 2 B's and made the dean's list. I honestly feel I could have gotten all A's, but with two kids and 7 classes plus clinicals, I feel like I did pretty well considering.

I think you will be fine if you study along the way instead of trying to do it the night or even the few days prior to the tests. I really think that's key.

Re: Nursing School grades

But if clinical was included into the theory portion, then i'd get a better grade

In our case clinicals are pass or fail....of course pass means to have satisfactory in all 120 areas or so....

Re: Nursing School grades

We have to have an 80 or above in everything. Yes A's are possible.) I make them pretty regularly. You have to study regularly to make them tho. Our class started with 50 people and we are down to 11 of the original class. We have another 11 who transferred in at various stages. The trick is finding your best personal study method and sticking to it. Do not change methods in mid-stream. Simply reading is not enough for me, I have to create my own questions and then answer them. Good Luck

Re: Nursing School grades

I got all A's in nursing school! . Sure it can be done. Who says you can't keep your pre-req grades?

The trick is (and I know it has been said before) learning how to answer critical thinking questions. Sometimes I'd read a question, and think, "Nice try-I see what you're getting at". They are filling the question with all kinds of info, but they really want you to be able to see through all the blah diddy blah blah and get their point. It's almost like they are talking to you in code.

I mentioned this on another thread, but I'd highlight my book (debinded of course) when the instructor said something that pertained to it. If the teacher says something twice, then I put a star next to it in my book and power points. Teachers don't repeat themselves for the fun of it. If you have trouble with critical thinking questions, then get an NCLEX book stat! I recommend Saunders, and review the rationals. In fact, I'd see some questions on the test that were awefully similiar to those in the NCLEX book, and I saw the same thing on HESI. Good Luck-It can be done!

Re: Nursing School grades

Nobody in our class has an A. We started with 130 people, but now we are down to 70. Our class avarage is 75! I study every day and I am very happy with my B.

Re: Nursing School grades

I have gotten A's every quarter with the exception of Summer quarter psych. I am not a psych person, plus, I was more concerned with being outside and swimming with my kids. So, I ended up with a B that quarter. I have been fairly consistent with my grades. Although, this quarter, I got my first C on an exam EVER (since high school), so that was a wake up call for me, the very next exam though I got a 98%, so I pulled my grade up. I am still nervous for the next couple of exams, but I will be happy to just pass at this point. I am graduating in 3 weeks.

I have 3 kids and a husband who works 2nd and 3rd shift, so it can be done! I read my notes daily and tried to do NCLEX questions at least once before an exam.

We have to have 75% in our class to pass.

Good luck to everyone out there!
