I was wondering if anyone else was offered this through their schools. It's a program that allows Nursing students to work at a hospital, get their tuition paid for, get full benefits, but only work 2 12-hour shifts and get paid for 36 hours? It sounds like a great offer but what does this work actually mean...CNA type of work?

If anyone is currently working in the hospitals now.. what do you do there and what positions are offered to nursing students?

Most internship jobs I have heard about is more like an RN shadowing thing, You do everything that an RN does, a specific RN is assigned to you and you help out with all the patients, not just CNA stuff.

In my area a nurse externship basically means a CNA. I interviewed for a few of these jobs (none of which paid for school btw) and the job description was vitals, bed baths, stocking, etc. There would not be any opportunites to practice any skills. If you are looking for a way to pay for school and don't mind signing on to work for a particular hospital after graduation, this might be perfect for you. I would caution you however, to get the job description from the unit manager, not human resources. HR made the job sound much more glamorous, and even implied that I would be doing a lot more "skills" than the unit actually allowed.
