Not sure how I am going to handle next semester...

Hello all..

I just relized today that next semester is going to **** me of...lol. Currently My school and work schedule allows for 1 day off a week. It sucks b/c I work two 12 hours shifts EVERY saturday and Sunday, and go to school Monday - Thursday, So I have fridays off to be with my hubby and kids....

Now next semesters schedule is out. and ready to be registered for..and it allows for NO days off. Now, this may be a minor inconvienience to some, but for me who really never has any time to myself in the first place this is a big deal. This means 5 months of NO days off...AT ALL... School and work 7 days a week, as well as dealing with my kids and husband and household.

Anyone else dealing with this? I dont know what im doing to do....

I'm kind of in the same situation with school and work and family time. This might sound bad, but sometimes I just skip class so I can have a day with my kids. Today, I woke up and it's pouring rain out and we just got a new puppy and I was just like, whatever I'm staying home. It's a class that I can read the book and the powerpoints and still make an A or B in.

I know it's hard, I have to tell myself that it's not for too much longer.

Is it financially feasible for you to quit your job? If it isn't (which I'd give serious consideration to), ask hubby to take over most of the household chores.

I was once in a situation that was pretty hard to deal with. It was only going to last five months (just like you, lol). what I did was I made a construction paper chain--you know, like the ones done in kindergarten. Each day I removed one of the links and each day I felt like I was getting closer and closer to the time when I would be out of that situation. Sounds silly, but it worked for me!

I wish you the very best!

Lol..that paper chain idea made me laugh!! Its been since maybe 2nd grade since I made one of those.

It really isnt feasible to quit (but oh I can still dream) As the school I go to is "owned" by the hospital I work for and my tuition is being paid in full. I have to keep up full time hours for them to pay, so thats what Im doing. My husband is ok with chores, sometimes I have to "gently" remind him that he needs to help me, but he does well..

Im just upset that any time I had to family and friends is gone. All I ask is one day! even a day every other week If I had to..but no such luck....

Aw, that's rough! I firmly believe that you have to find time for yourself, just for sanity's sake. Is there one day a week or every other week where you could designate a couple of hours as family time? Go out to dinner, bake cookies or sit and make paper chains together! If you can pick an evening and be consistent about it, it might help a little and it will give you something to look forward to and plan for. Good luck!

If there is no way around it, and you absolutely have to keep your job, and this is the schedule you have to keep, then I agree, try setting some designated time for family and friends. Yes, it's going to suck, but it is 5 months. There is an end in sight. The paper chain idea is a cute one, and it might help because it can help you *see* an end to the overdrive. Or, you could get a calendar and mark off the days. Make sure you get adequate sleep, because, as I'm sure you know, when you're tired, things seem so much worse than if you're not. Make sure you eat well and take some time for yourself. That may mean just a few minutes on your drive to/from work or school, but it's still important. If there is no alternative, then all you can do is get through as best you can, and remind yourself daily (hourly?) that there is an end. Take care and good luck!
