No Pre reqs?

I received my schedule in May and I noticed that I had no pre req classes or core curriculum classes (except english), just strict nursing classes?
I also talked to some other students who are in pre-nursing..

I was just wondering why I was just accepted into nursing and they have to take pre-req classes and I don't?

Re: No Pre reqs?

Sounds like a mistake if I'm reading your post correctly. So you haven't taken anatomy, physiology, chemistry, etc.? If you haven't had some version of the afore mentioned classes then you're likely going to have a really tough time w/ nursing school.

What kind of program are you in? Are you at a university as a freshman, or are you at a community college or trade school? Most schools have you create your own schedule with the assistance of a couselor. If you are enrolled as "pre-nursing" maybe the all nursing courses are actully the pre-reqs that you will be needing.

Heck, I don't know but something seems fishy. Also, most schools I know of (in California anyway) have the pre-reqs as just that, a pre-requisite to applying to nursing school. I had to have all mine done or almost done before I could apply to different nursing programs.

Call the registration office or make an appointment with a counselor. Good luck.

Seems obvious to me that what are called the pre-reqs are probably built into your nursing class curriculum. That was traditionally done in the older programs years ago. It might still be done in the program you have been accepted into. Each school is free to handle this the way they want.

It the schools policy is pre-reqs first and other pre-nursing students are in pre-reqs, your school may have made a mistake. Perhaps your pre-req classes have a nursing prefix....

Do you have adequates Anatomy/Phsyiology and Chemistry background?

You have two choice. Go to the classes assigned or point out the error to the powers that be. Accepted without pre-reqs! Luck dog!

Re: No Pre reqs?

Anatomy and Phyisology is one of my first semester nursing courses.
I don't have to take chemistry, but no one else does either.
We actually had to take chemistry and pass the state exam in order to be accepted into the program. So I guess maybe those who didn't take the state test have to take chemistry as a pre-req.

I am in a state university as a freshman. Straight out of high school. I didn't get to create my own schedule, no one does here being a freshman. Your academic advisor designs one for you.

My Schedule is as follows:
Monday - Anatomy and Physiology LAB, Fundamentals of Nursing LAB, Clinical Calculations
Tues. and Thurs. - anatomy and phys class, fundamentals class, english, intro to health care.
Wed and Fri - Clinicals

Re: No Pre reqs?

Are those friends going to the same school?

Some schools don't have pre-reqs, but co-reqs. The program I attended was designed for the student fresh out of high school, who had taken chemistry and algerbra in high school and the could go right into it. But the A&P, Micro, etc. were co-req courses.

As was stated above, I would check to see if the A&P, etc. are built in the nursing courses, or that there wasn't a mistake.

Good luck!

Re: No Pre reqs?

My intro to healthcare and my anatomy class are co-reqs, but nothing else is.
And yea, they go to the same school.

Honestly, am I just one of the lucky ones?
That would make me so proud.

Re: No Pre reqs?

If you're in the exact same program at the same school as these people and your subjects don't seem to match up at all, you might want to ask an advisor. You could just go to the classes as assigned and keep quiet, but if it's going to cause a problem down the road, you probably want to take care of it upfront before classes get into full swing.
