HAPPY!! - NG tubes and Catheters

I am a first year student and my class is finally learning NG tubes and Catheters. I was so happy to get a change from the hand washing and nursing process stuff. Don't get me wrong that's just as important but now were getting to what I signed up for lol ( real life). How is everyone else coming along in there first year?

Re: NG tubes and Catheters

Our health skills class . . . where you learn hand washing, sterile field set up, taking BP, and standard precautions is a pre req for us.

Our lab, for my first semester in the actually nursing program, we learn giving injections (passed that skill already), placing indwelling catheters (have to demonstrate that skill at next lab), PO meds, and doing an initial assessment.

First clinical starts October 12th and I am nervous and excited!

Re: NG tubes and Catheters

We also did NG tubes yesterday and I actually enjoyed it immensely I hated learning sterile field; it just made me very nervous. Guess I'll keep practicing that one at home.

My first clinical is October 10. I'll do three 5-hour clinicals at a nursing home.

Then we finish the rest of the semester until December 21 in OB clinicals.

My class will be going to the nursing home on Oct. 7. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
