Hi all, I was just thinking that the other thread for those of us over 35 was getting a bit long so I figured it would be a good idea to start a new one. We may get even more people to join in if they don't have to go through pages of postings first. What do you all think?- Kimberly

I'm definitely past 35. I have almost completed a certificate in medical coding. I am now deciding whether to stay in the medical assistant program, go to nursing program ( my first choice ) or just quit because of cost of attendance. Financial aid not available. How to other people fund school? I'm not married don't qualifiy for any state/federal aid. I have been taking one or two classes at a time and paying for it myself. My state has budget deficit (Indiana) and huge tuition increases at all colleges. The nursing program requires full time attendance and are not allowed to work but job opportunities are tremendous. The MA programs is part time but pay scales will be much less. I am too old to join the armed forces, employers here generally do not refund tuition costs, I have applied for many scholarships but most are for "young" students. How do nurses feel about medical assistants in hospital work I would actually have more credits than an LPN plus more clinical hours? How did you fund your education? I have looked at colleges out of state and they would require out of state tuition. I can understand why there is a nurse shortage because most people can't afford tuition, books, uniforms and such. Should I borrow money on charge cards or what? to pay for school? Remember I don't get state/federal aid in any form I have applied and don't qualify.

45 and still going strong. Am taking micro this summer and back to nursing in Aug. Will be finished in May 2003. Good luck to all.

38 here and will be 39 in August when I start my nursing classes! I will be 4-0 when I graduate and probably 41 when I get my first nursing job!

Yep 41 and holding here. Just finished my ADN program with honors, graduated June 17th and will start my new position June 10th.

I was 46 in April, and just started prereqs this year. Hope to have them finished by year end so I can apply for the nursing program (ADN-RN) at my local community college that will start next May. I'm still working full time and will continue until I get that acceptance letter...then will be in nursing classes full time til graduation in fall of 2004 (God willing!). Its never too late to be what we might have been!

I am 35 this year and I just started my pre req's through chancellors learning center. I will basically test out of them and then start at excelsior college for the nursing courses next year.

I am from Indiana also. Any one wanting info on this program let me know! I have 3 kids ages 13, 12, and 3 and married for 4 years.
