I'm starting in the Fall too. I bought a Littman Classic II SE. It was about $80...I think you can get them a bit cheaper online. It's not an easy decision. Basically, I read the posts here to see what others had to say and then researched from there.

Re: need stethoscope help!

Do a search in this forum, there are probably a dozen threads, pro and con on the various brands. My opinion is get what works for you- ie a cardiac nurse and clinical instructor I know uses a $6.00 cheapy that she just keeps buying new tubing for every couple years.

Rj
Ps same goes for shoes and uniforms/

get the cheapest but best quality one, it would be a waste to spend a lot of money on a stethoscope

Go to the medical supply or uniform store and try every type they have. Then you can make a more informed decision. The people there are usually very helpful.

Re: need stethoscope help!

Rj's right; there's a LOT of threads on this subject, and they all look the same, lol....everyone has their fave and that ranges from a ten dollar cheapie to a 200 dollar fab-a-mundo

Buying the cheapie doesn't mean you won't hear very well, and buying the expensive one doesn't mean you will either....it's very personal, and you may wind up buying a number of them before you find your best match (I went through two in school and got a third--so I KNEW what I wanted by then--at graduation )

Everyone will tell you what they got. But you can only go by what YOU HEAR when you listen through it
