Need a LVN to talk to

I am thinking of just going this route since its much faster and I will be able to work faster. I really want to do the RN but its going to be so time consuming. It will take me about 3 yrs or longer with pre courses.

What is LVN school like exactly and how time consuming is it? I have 2 kids. 2 and 5. I just need skills fast so I can work.

I am nervous about doing either but especially the LVN since it is 5 days a week.

I will have to put my 2 yr old in a 5 day a week program and find afterschool care for my 5yr old.

Are there any types of help available for childcare while going to nursing school? I live in TX.

Brandi

This webpage is from the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians and tells you what the California Board expects of the California LVN schools. That should at least give you some kind of an idea what you are likely to learn in a program of LVN nursing. Here are other links that talk about what an LPN/LVN doesI have also asked the moderators to move these thread to the LPN forum where licensed LPN/LVNs can better answer your question.

I dont know about other places in Texas but there is a program here in the North Texas area called CCMS (child care management services)and they provide funding for daycare centers. A lot of people get their childcare completely paid for so they can work or go to school but it all depends on income. You can look up the info but any daycare that takes CCMS can give you the info..Good luck to you

Re: Need a LVN to talk to

If you need to work fast, i would suggest doing the LVN first. It will take you longer to finish, but you can hopefully work while doing a part time RN program. There are sooo many factors to consider, so i would need more details about your particular situation. I will tell you that it's going to be difficult, and that's okay you CAN do it. I'm just about to graduate from an LVN program here in Houston and I can't wait. I don't have any kids, but i did have to work, and I have made it......almost. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!

I just passed the LPN class and will attend my pinning ceremony on Thursday. I know I'm in the minority but I think going for the LVN/LPN first is the best way to go. In my last semester, there were about six or seven students that failed their 5th semester in the RN program and had to complete the last semester of the LPN program before being accepted again.

At least if they had done the LVN first and bridged over they could be working as an LVN instead of a CNA. Furthermore, I don't think I could take another year without at least six months rest.

Just my two cents.
