My Fall Schedule

Hello everyone!
I finally had orientation and I know my schedule for first semester nursing school in the fall. I was wondering what you guys think about taking Pharm. with patho, fundamentals, clinical, and physical exam/assessment? Do you think it would be too much?
Should I just wait to take Pharm in the spring with Med-Surg? Or will that be too much as well?
This is my schedule without it:

Monday:
Fundamentals 12:00 pm - 2:50 pm

Tuesday:
Pathophysiology 8:30 am - 10:20 am

Wednesday:
Clinical 6:30-2:20 (chya, so I need to leave before the sun is up!)

Thursday:
Pathophysiology 8:30 am - 10:20 am
Physical exam and assessment 12:30 pm - 2:20 pm

Friday:
Lab for clinical 12:30 pm - 2:50 pm

Pharm meets Monday mornings.
Advice?
ps: with pharm it would be 17 credits.

EDIT: Okay! I just changed my schedule!! I didn't want to go to school late, but I heard this other patho professor is way better, so I am taking him. At least with my new schedule I won't have classes on Tuesday and I can prepare for clinical, etc.

Monday:
Fundamentals 12:00 pm - 2:50 pm
Pathophysiology 4:30 pm - 6:20 pm

Tuesday:
NOTHING!!!

Wednesday:
Clinical 6:30-2:20

Thursday:
Physical Exam & Assessment 12:30 pm - 2:20 pm
Pathophysiology 4:30 pm - 6:20 pm

Friday:
Clinical lab on campus 12:30 pm - 2:50 pm

Do you guys think this sounds better? Still undecided about pharm.

Re: My Fall Schedule

I'd say 2/3 of my class took Pharm with their 1st semester classes. Only one didn't pass. It can be done- good luck!

It's been done. I would take Pharm with the intro classes, It is not to much if you schedule your time.. Med-Surg will take up more of your time. Plus you don't have to worry about it in the 2nd semester..

Re: My Fall Schedule

Just make sure that you stay on top of things and study efficiently. I took pharm my second semester with patho II, women and children, adult med/surge, and Foundations II for a total of 17 credits. It was the hardest semester by far, but I got through it by studying a lot, and getting into study groups that did not chit chat. I made sure that I went to every class, read the chapter before the lecture, and reviewed old exams that were available on file in the library. I did all extra credit that was available and sat in the front of the class so that I would be more forced to pay attention. If you know that you have good study habits and can adhere to a strict schedule of a lot of reading and studying for tests and quizzes, then I do not think that you will have a problem. Just be honest with yourself about how hard you are willing to work. If you find that you are falling behind in any of your classes, then see if there are tutors available for any extra nudges throughout the semester. Finally, take care of yourself, eating, exercising, and getting sleep. This is not the semester to have late nights out partying! When the semester is over, you will be glad you got these classes out of the way! Good luck to you, I'm sure you will do well.

Re: My Fall Schedule

In our BSN program, our first semester was fundamentals, patho, pharm, and assessment. Only a few people didn't make it through the first semester but it was due to fundamentals (mostly failing out of clinical). I'd say take pharm as well because Medwynn is right on about med/surg taking up so much time.

Re: My Fall Schedule

I took Pharm this summer in a 6 or 8 week session, can't remember off hand, but even in the condensed time frame and the class only met one time per week for three hours and I ended up with a 92 in the class. Pharm is a tough class, but at my school it is normally taken in the Fall with a full class load and most pass it although it takes alot of work. I'd get it out of the way if I were you

Re: My Fall Schedule

Last semester I took Patho, Pharm, Organic Chem and Clinical Nutrition for a grand total of 17 credit hours. It was a rough semester but I made it, the best way to get everything done is keeping an eye on your time management. I had joined a couple of study groups but ended up working on my own cause they turned into two hour chat sessions
It can be done! If you feel like you can do it, it might just be better to get it done with now and not have to worry about over scheduling as you get into the more in-depth material.

Best of luck to you

Re: My Fall Schedule

I think that looks like a pretty decent schedule, especially with a day off. I hope I can get my schedule with a day off! Good luck!

Re: My Fall Schedule

I just finished my first semester and we just had pharm, assessment, adult health I, intro to nursing, and clinical. I will be taking patho this fall. Patho is a lot of information and it is difficult due to the content. The second semester students suggested that the new incoming freshman take Patho before pharm because you need to know how the body works before trying to give medicine! I agree. what do you think will work best for you moon...?

Tues.

9am-11:50am Health Assessment Across the Life Span

1pm-2:50 Principles of Nursing Pract.

Wednes.

8am-9:50 Health Promotion, Teaching and Self-care

Gosh big big big gap

3:50pm-4:30 Co-Op 101

Thurs all day Clinical till 5:30

Friday

8-9:50am Lecture again for Health promotion

11-1:50 Lab for Health Asses across the lifespan.

i think all together i have 19 creds i think. im not sure.

The reason why it was exciting today as well was because my friend and i ditched the rest of the orientation to go order our uniforms. it was so much fun. we had to order scrubs, lab coat with name pin, and school patch. pen light, and bandage scissors. If anyone has taking a course similar to this please let me know how it was for you.
