Last night, my study group got together and there was another person from the program at the cafe. She is in another lecture section than us, which means she's covering completely different content at same time than us. Well, we were trying to study and the entire time she kept saying "Oh, this'll be on the test, you have to know this, this nursing dx book really helped me with rationale, 88% is so bad for me and what I'm used to, etc."
We tried ignoring her, we tried saying "Ok, but that's not what we do.", I tried just turning my head and studying with other members of group. NOTHING worked! Do I just have to come out and say, "I don't care what works for you, it doesn't work for us, we're happy to pass with 80 or above, etc!"
Was just annoying, and we've decided as a group to move our study sessions to another cafe where we're not quite as likely to run into her. I guess it's a small price to pay in order to study what we need to....
Also, test had been re-written since she took it last month, so entirely new questions and what she told us to watch for was nothing I couldn't figure out on my own...I guess it just comes with being a nursing student....LOL.

Or maybe she was lonely and was trying to be invited into your group.

And they say it's the older nurses who eat the students/new nurses. Hmmm...

we have one of those who after every test says, "oh, that test was cake. it was cake!" five minutes later she'll say the SAME thing again. she asks soooooooo many questions in class that i want to strangle her--and she is in my study group, and i love my study group--but hate her being in it!!! i don't know what to do either. thinking about dropping my group-it is THAT bad.

ugh. i am sooooo with you! know-it-alls suck. :/

I know it, but thankfully she just kind of latched on last night...no one is planning to invite her to the next group....

I've been known to say "we know what we are doing and how we plan on doing it. Thanks for your input but we don't need it anymore"

Yeah, not overly polite but if hints don't work I'm not gonna keep on hinting. I don't have a lot of time to waste on a study session that isn't going well.

She probably thought she was being helpful. Next time just let her know that yo appreciate the tips and be sure to review ____, but you have a process that you have to complete. Then turn around and keep going.

You shouldn't have to move because of someone interfering in your study group time. Just be polite and direct with her - remind her that she's not in your class now, the content has changed, and that you have limited time to focus in on what you're trying to accomplish as a group. If she still persists, kindly ask her to leave so you can continue.

I'm dealing with one of those in my class now, who questions everything the professor teaches, etc. and NEVER shuts UP. Meanwhile i'm thinking "well if you KNOW all this crap, then WHY are you HERE" (it's not a required or recommended class for our nursing program)

The other day, I was in the library studying. An annoying exchange student came up to me and started talking about the material. He started giving this pretentious talk about how important this material was, how fascinating it was, how much he had been studying, how much smarter he was than most of the people in the class, and how he got a 94 on the exam. After letting him ramble a bit, I quietly said, "Well, I got a 96 on the exam WITHOUT all the ostentatious bragging. I'm sure that you'd do better if you sment less time showing off." With that, I turned and left for a quieter part of the library.

When it comes to obnoxious know-it-alls who talk in class, I usually just ask them to please stop distracting my learning, and if the don't stop, I say, "Either test out of this course or shut the hell up so the rest of us can pass this class."
