Re: Medical Terminology Websites?

Hi Marci,

Try http://www.dmu.edu/medterms/welcome.htm. My school did not require a med. term. course as a prerequisite, but I thought it would be helpful and found this one. It is free and has tutorials and quizes that you can retake as many times as your heart desires.

Hope this helps!

~Cathy

Re: Medical Terminology Websites?

This is perfect, thanks!
My school doesn't require one either. However, I don't start nursing classes until fall and I have all of my prerequisites done. I'm just trying to "get ahead of the game" now.
Thanks again,
Marci

Glad to be able to help. I'm in exactly the same situation...I start an Accelerated BSN in the Fall and know that I'll barely have time to keep up with what I should be learning once we start. There's no way I'll be able to do that and learn things I should probably already know. I'll be using the time between now and then to review and hopefully get ahead.
Good luck!!

Hey, I see you're in Philly. What school are you going to be attending?
I live near Pittsburgh. I'll be going to Butler County Community College for my ASN. I thought about doing an accelerated BSN since I already have a BS degree, but the closest ones to me are atleast an hour in any direction.
Thanks again for your help.

Here are several other medical terminology sites:

http://www.training.seer.cancer.gov/module_cancer_terminology/unit01_sec01.html - a basic medical terminology course. Click on the arrows on the top menu bar to move through the program

http://www.lcsc.edu/healthocc/enable02/medterm.htm - medical terminology in a nutshell with several short quizzes – organized into sections on word roots, suffixes, prefixes, how to read a medical term, and abbreviations

http://wps.prenhall.com/chet_rice_terminolog_2/0,4681,198650-,00.html - this is the companion website self study resource for Terminology of Health and Medicine by Jane Rice. There is a dropdown box just under the top banner that will give you access to the various chapters of the course. Clicking on the individual chapters takes you to a page of objectives. However, on the left side of each page are links to multiple choice, T/F, labeling, fill in the blank and essay questions for that chapter along with a link to a glossary of medical terms. The labeling includes basic anatomy structures to be labeled.

http://www.sweethaven.com/free-ed/HealthCare/MedTerm-v02.asp
http://www.free-ed.net/free-ed/HealthCare/MedTerm-v02.asp - this is a free on line medical terminology course. This link takes you to a page of links that are organized by stems (word roots), prefixes, and suffixes. There are multiple choice and matching exams after each section that give you instant feedback that tells you if your response is right or wrong

Hey! I'll be attending Drexel University and I'm sssooooo excited, especially since I've realized that I'm just so much better at school this time around. I've found that I don't procrastinate as much and I'm so much more determined this time. BCCC sounds like a great school. I've read a lot of posts about it. Good luck! Hopefully the 2nd time will be the charm for both of us...I'm sick of dreading going to work everyday.
Take care.
