The background check post got me thinking. Will they check your medical background? Last year I got put on Lexapro for anxiety. Do they look into that stuff? If they do will it matter? Sorry if that is a silly question.
I don't think that's something you'll need to worry about. I don't believe that there is any sort of medical background required (other than passing a physical for some schools/employers). As long as you're on legal medications and can prove you have the prescription for it (should the need arise) I can't imagine it being an issue.
Your medical history is protected by HIPPA. They might require you to have a physical, as someone else mentioned, and AFTER you are accepted they may need to know what meds you are on in case of emergency. I had been concerned about this as well - I have severe depression (possibly bipolar) but am controlled by medication. What's funny is that there are 4 students in my nursing class that I know of who are on antidepressants!
when you apply for licensure it asks questions about medical background, but it's like 'have you been hospitialized for psychosis?' that's completely different.
