I'll start!

Hours Required? 170

Did you or the school pick where you're going? We got to speak to the managers of the units and basically sell ourselves to them.

Will you still have school? Yes, 1-2 times per week.

At my school, our preceptorship is optional...I am choosing to do it though.
Hours Required? Either 40 or 80, student's choice (small amount, I know!)

Timframe to complete? 1 week for 40 hours or 2 weeks for 80 hours

Did you or the school pick where you're going? We get to say our top three choices and the school does their best to get us into one of those three

Unit/Floor you'll be on? Won't know the facility or floor until April!

Shifts working? ???

Will you still have school? No...we just have to journal our experiences

Any special rules? Not that I know of

ARE YOU EXCITED ?!?!?!?!?!?! Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: May/June 2008 grads - Externship / Preceptorship??

We had the option of doing ours over our winter break or during spring semester while taking our last 3 classes. I think most of us did it over winter break, I finished mine last week!

Hours Required? only 84 hrs

Timframe to complete? basically over 3 weeks

Did you or the school pick where you're going? we listed our top 3 areas and the school placed us

Unit/Floor you'll be on? I was on the cardiac SICU at Johns Hopkins. VERY exciting!!!

Shifts working? 7a-7p

Will you still have school? not over winter break, those who choose to do it over spring semester will still have 3 classes. That's why no one is doing it then, even though 84 hours isn't that bad!

Any special rules? journal of experience and clinical skills after every shift worked and a literature review relating to something pertaining to the unit we are on

ARE YOU EXCITED ?!?!?!?!?!?! I was!!! It was an AWESOME experience, so glad I got such an awesome opportunity!!
