Question? - Math Tests

Please respond with your school's policy.....

My nursing school has decided to change our math test (MCAT) policy. We are required to pass the test with a 100% or we fail! Yes, I said 100%. Has anyone else experienced this drastic change?

Thanks!

In our school it was always The way. Every class has to pass math examination with 100% or we fail the semester, its very disturbing knowing that one stupid mistake can cause you loose the whole year and tons of money.

Re: Math Tests

We also have to have 100%. We do get a second chance to pass. When is your test? I think ours is in about 2 weeks

Re: Math Tests

Aye, applicants have to hit 80%, first semester 85%, second semester 90%, third semester 95%, and before you start last semester you've gotta hit 100%

I know this is probably going to upset you even more, but most employers also require a 100% passage on a drug calculation test before they will let you near a patient when you get hired into any licensed nursing position. This is a fact of nursing life. It is due to the high number of medication errors. These are statistics that have been tracked for a number of years nationally. Not being able to do the math is a deal breaker, folks. For drug calculation problems, we are talking about being able to do 8th grade level, or pre-algebra level, math. You need to know how to work with fractions.

One stupid mistake when you are a nurse can cause someone to lose their life.

I think all nursing programs should require a 100%. Mine only requires a 90.

Re: Math Tests

I think ours is 84% then 92% later- they don't teach it though- they say go buy a book- it $76 -teach yourself the math and in a month you get a test you have to pass. Fun****

Re: Math Tests

Our policy just changed this semester. In previous semesters we did have to make 100% and we got six chances. This semester they decided we could make an 80% but we only have three chances to pass or we fail the semester.

Yeah but you only forgot one characteristic of humans, we are genetically programmed to make mistakes, sooner or later, this is a reality. If you think you will never make a mistake in nursing I shall say Im sorry but you just simply living in a fantasy world. Hava a nice day.
