Re: Mac or PC, which do you prefer to have while in school?

Could you explain the differance between a Mac and a pC, I thought macs were just PC's made by a differant company. I have all the problems mentioned with my Dell and it is only 2 years old. Freezes, illegal operation message etc. I got it while doing online classes but am wondering how user friendly a Mac would be and the cost, I am looking to buy a new computer for Christmas for my son.

I just bought a new laptop...circuit city had a really good deal, it's light as a feather also so I'm sure carrying it around wouldn't be a hassle at all. I got windows XP and it syncs perfectly with my palm TX and the laptop has a built in memory card reader so I got alot of skyscape products on one memory card, and then I put my micro notes on the other, and then just stick them in my palm as needed, take it out, stick it in the laptop, type up the notes, then right over to my palm again. It's a perfect system, if anyone has anyquestions on it just email me mikeyirwin04@sbcglobal.net ill be happy to help! enguin:

I'm surrounded by PCs, Dells to be specific. The one I'm using now is supposedly the best of the bunch, but it's been nothing but a lemon! Just last week I spent hours on the phone with Dell Gold Tech support AND the Geek Squad. Dell is basically replacing my machine one part at a time rather than just giving me a new one under some "lemon law"... so far a new hard drive and motherboard, plus memory cards (how many more big parts can there be??)
Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a Mac and setting it up alongside my Dell. I'll surf the web and risk trojan horses, viruses, spyware etc. on the machine that should be a boat anchor and use my pristine Mac for papers, etc.
Are Macs easier to use? Given the elegance of the iPod design, I've got to think so...

Veggie - the OP software you need to open older CD roms, like the ones that come with textbooks - takes about 30 seconds to upload from your system discs. Then, you can open any old CD Rom in the Mac Classics environment.
You can also assign the forward delete feature to any one key you want. It is easy - you just have to download a software program - there are lots of free or very cheap ones available - that allows you to reprogram your keyboard and add a forward delete. All in all, these changes take about 2 minutes or less and you've fixed any problems with your mac. If you need help, PM me.
I don't know a single person who was a PC user and has gotten a Mac and looked back. They only mac haters are those who have actually never used one. Seriously.
CNET.com is a great site with reviews of all kinds of electronics if you are looking for more extensive reviews and comparions of all sorts of laptops - PC and Mac.

I had a mac before..The thing about it, almost all colleges have a PC in their computer rooms and not a MAC..You can ALWAYS find a pc in any college but you cannot always find a MAC..Case, in point, if you are doing some work at home with a MAC and you need to like do something at school and their computer room does not have a MAc then you are screwed!

That is definitely a problem for people with Macs. I've worked in places as computer support. If you have a Mac the key thing is to find out what kind of software they have and what is the best way to save your work. It's not as bad as it used to be, but you do have to watch out. Your school computer lab could still have some of the oldest software around. Last think you need is to print out a paper at school, only to find you can't open it.
