Are On Line Rn To Bsn Progams Legit?

Hey All.

I Want To Get My Bsn After My Adn And I Was Wondering If Anyone Has Any Experience With The Online Rn To Bsn Programs, Especially The One At Excelsior College. Are They Legit? What Do You Think My Chances Would Be Of Getting Hired After Getting A Degree Through One? What's The Coursework Like?
Thanks For Any Help You Can Provide.

Absolutely 100% legit. Check out this thread: http://allnurses.com/forums/f125/rn-...ne-105380.html

I'm in Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences RN to BSN program and it is accredited with the National League Of Nursing. My degree is going to BSN, FHCHS, not "I got an online degree............"

Online RN to BSN programs, and other degrees for that matter, are more and more common nowadays that employers don't bat an eye. Don't think for a minute it's going to hold you back.

The course work is challenging. Most courses allow you to take one class at a time and progress over a period of 18 to 24 months, which allows you to work as an RN. Here's a sample of the courses I have to take.

They are set up to have a live online chat once a week. Also there are lots of papers. Most of the instructors have a power point presentation every week that you watch, which is their "lecture", which varies in length.

DNRS/NRSG 326 3 credits Concepts of Professional Nursing
DNRS/NRSG 327 4 credits Health Promotion and Assessment
DNRS/NRSG 328 4 credits Principles of Pathophysiology
DNRS/NRSG 329 3 credits Pharmocology
DNRS/NRSG 446 3 credits Community Health Nursing
DNRS/NRSG 447 3 credits Population-Focused Health Promotion
DNRS/NRSG 485 3 credits Leadership and Management in Nursing
DNRS/NRSG 497 3 credits Nursing Research Methods
DNRS/NRSG 499 3 credits Seminar in Nursing
NSRG 302 3 credits Practicum*
DSOC 349 3 credits Aging and Society

NLN approved programs are required to have a clinical component for accreditation.

Our assessment class, gave us a lot of clinical time for "practicing" assessments, which we did on our own (which I really didn't practice all that much), and we had to follow an ARNP or MD for 8 hours. Our Community health gave us clinical hours for doing two teaching projects in which we had to teach two different populations. (I choose occupation health - i.e. my coworkers, and men's health - my friends). Our leadership clinical is an 8-hour day spent with someone in management.

There are no "clinicals" such as going to the hospital and taking patients, because you've had that in ADN school. The clinicals are more advanced practices.
