Hi everyone ,

I will be starting LPN school in October and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the day in the life of an LPN student is like. I have orientation in 2 weeks but was just wondering if any new students can tell me what a normal school day is like. How much time do you have in the classroom and how much time is spent on clinicals?

Hi greatan. I just finished my 3rd week of LPN school and I'll tell you what it's been like so far. Roughly 6 hours a day for class, clinicals two days a week for 6 hours each day. However, the most time comsuming part is all of the hours outside of class that I spend studying.

It all depends on whether you're receiving your education and training at a vocational college or community college. I attended a private, expensive vocational college that had 6-hour classroom days and 8-hour day clinical rotations. The life of the typical LPN student involves abundant reading and studying for an endless slurry of tests. My tip of the day is to never procrastinate! Good luck!

I guess I am just getting a little nervous because my starting date is really soon. I am excited but a little scared. This is a whole new career for me. I was in graphics for 20 years then was laid off for 6 months. I was always interesting in nursing so I figured now was a good time to get into it. I am going to a private vocational school from 5-10 pm 5 days a week. How do clinicals exactly work. Do you work in groups with your teacher? Is it more watching or doing. What have you new students been able to do at clinicals so far? Thanks for your help!

I am in my 6th month of my lpn program, at the begining we were told that the fist four mths would be extremly difficult...and they were right.Not trying to scare anyone, just being realistic. There is an enoromus amount of material to study, many many tests, combine all that with a spouse and children(I have four-ages 8,5,4 and 3) it'll be an experience you will never forget. I have completed my geriatric clinical, which was not so bad, and have started my med-surg rotation. All I can tell you is no matter how hard it gets never give up...Good Luck

I am in my third week of LPN school at a community college and so far it has not been what I was told it was going to be Yes it is alottttttttttttttt of reading but if you keep up with the readings and the other assignments you should do well We have 6 hours of clinicals 1 day a week 4 hours of lecture and the rest of the time is between pharm and lab time so it is very overwhelming but just pay attention & listen to the instructors you should do very well I also do not have any small children (son freshman in college daughter senior in high school) or a husband (never been married) so I can only imagine But it all works out in the end

I'm in my third week of an accelerated lpn program. Suprised I have time to look over this site. I have found it very helpful....Not to scare anyone but I have never studied so much in my life and I have already finished 2 years of college. We have a test everyday and a huge amount of info to learn. It can be done but is hard on my kids and husband. Following you dreams is not always easy....

I graduate Dec. 12, 2006!! Yeah, I have class twice a week 8:00-3:30 and clinical 3 days a wk. 7:30-3:00. It's been alot of hard work but well worth it. We start clinical on Monday Psych rotation, should be really interesting.

I'm also in LPN school but am in Winston Salem. It's a tremendous amount of work. As a matter of fact it's 1:45 am and I have to meet my study partner tomorrow at 9am in High Point. Are you a student at FTCC? Would be interesting if we were in the same class.
