Hi All,

I'm about to graduate and am applying to one hospital that required 2 professional letters of recommendation. I got one from my past clinical instructor and it has some errors. Once she referred to me by the wrong name, and once referred to me as "he", plus there are some grammatical errors. My other LOR is coming from a previous employer and I can't believe someone with a doctorate wrote this letter. More grammatical errors and misspellings, and just all around not very professional sounding. She is from another country, but she got her DDS in the U.S, so I wouldn't have expected this.

My question is, how badly does it reflect upon me if I turn these letters in? I did point out the name error to my clinical instructor and she said she would fix it. I felt so bad asking her to write me another one, but come on. She hasn't given it to me yet and the deadline is next week for my intern application. I don't want to be a nuisance since the letter was very nice, otherwise. My former boss took almost 2 months to get this LOR to me, so I know there's nothing I can do about that one (not that I would point out her terrible writing skills anyway). I feel like an ingrate, but I don't want potential employers to think I'm an idiot for turning in these letters! It's really too late to ask anyone else at this point. Any advice?

I had to correct two different instructors either about dates or some other minor things. I didn't get the feeling either time it was a huge issue for them. You figure that they get so many requests they must be used to this.

As for your former employer, if there's no one else you can ask, you'll have to at least attempt to get her to make some corrections. I think I'd hang on to the original letter in case that didn't work out and you need to use the "mess" as a backup!!
