Labor & Delivery and Postpartum

I started my OB clinicals last week. I was excited about going in the nursery and NICU. As you can tell by my name that is the direction I have planned on going from the beginning of this crazy journey. Did not even consider L&D until last week. My first day of clinical I was in L&D and fell in LOVE! Last night I was in postpartum and I enjoyed it. I really think this is what I want to do. Tonight is my first night in NICU, I am sure I will like it but not so sure that I will LOVE it like L&D. We will see. I am SO happy that I have found something I really love doing! During Med-Surg I, I never felt like this and was sacred I would go through nursing school and not really find something I liked. Just thought I would share this with you. I have told my husband how excited I am but he just doesn't seem to get it like all my nursing freinds.

Re: Labor & Delivery and Postpartum

It's good that you have found your true love in nursing. I also want to goto into that same specialty- I worked for a OB/Gyn for six years in an office as his assistant and loved it!! Now, I will start ns next month and I know that is what I want to continue doing. In the hospitals around here, they will often cross train the nurses to float around to L&D, postpartum, NICU. Maybe that's something you would like as well. Good luck!

Re: Labor & Delivery and Postpartum

I'm currently volunteering at a local hospital in their L&D and I Love It! I also volunteered on Med-Surg. I liked it but didn't have the passion as I do for L&D. I love the fast pace and the quality of care that is give and plus is it is the happiest place in the hospital -Everybody loves birthdays
