Question Is it just a phase?

I'm in my last year of nursing school and I'm more stressed out than I've ever been in my life. My program is really fast paced and I'm going on about 3-4 hours of sleep a night during the week. I work on the weekends and study when I'm not working or in school. I've loved the whole nursing thing up until recently. I still like what I'm doing, I'm just having a hard time enjoying it if that makes any sense. I'm losing weight like crazy, my mood/emotions are completely out of wack, and I'm physically and mentally exhausted. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this, so here's my question. Is this something that anyone else has gone through or is going through? I'm just hoping it's a phase and I'll get past it when my load lightens up a little.

Re: Is it just a phase?

I have been there before - i graduated 10 years ago with my ADN and went through this same thing. Once I graduated it was over and then I went back for my BSN and just before graduation - it started again. (I felt that I needed more torture! lol) And because it went away and I felt that there was still something missing - guess what? I am now finishing my Masters Degree and this phase is back again. If I didn't have such a wonderful support system at home, I do not think that I would have even finished my ADN - my husband had to get me out of bed in the morning and drive me to class the entire last week of my ADN - I just wanted to crawl into a dark hole and never come out. I am so glad that he did not let me quit and kept pushing me to finish. My job is so rewarding for me and I absolutely love what I do every day. Hang in there, I promise it will get easier.

Re: Is it just a phase?

I can definitely relate to this; i'm also in my last year and I can feel the stress building. I try to get through it by making a point of getting adequate sleep, otherwise I am pretty useless and irritable the next day - and organizing my time well with lists etc....but then I always feel like I could be studying more...it can be so frustrating, right?
We will get through this though...

I'm going through this, too - so this wk I decided to go part time and just graduate next May. Oh well, it's only 5 months longer.

I don't think it's a phase. I think it's a consequence.
