Hi to everyone. I just found out that a very good friend of mine didn't pass 3rd semester (ADN). I have to admit that I am now on pins and needles myself. Our last class is a wrap up next Tuesday. I thought we would have known by now if we didn't make it. Apparantly some of us are just finding out now. UGH!!!!
Thankfully my friend was gracious about the whole thing and even asked if she could finish acute care that same night! The instructor let her and told her she felt she just didn't improve enough from the 1st day in acute care. Up until that point, she thought she was holding her own. She is going on and is due to take the LPN at the beginning of June. Her attitude is so good. She told me she's going to focus on gaining experience. I was much sadder than she was.

Thats sad when friends fail out. Some of my very good friends have failed out my first and second semester. Its sad because these people study so hard and put so much effort.

Oh I know it's so hard. After finals I saw a few ppl I know who are either ahead or behind me a semester and I asked "how was your semester?" some of them didn't make it.
It's so hard to see ppl fail out!
At my school, you are dismissed from the program, must wait one year, but can reapply to the school for admission into the class you failed. So best case scenario, you graduate 1 year behind your class IF you get back in.

The same thing just happened 2 me this week I failed my class by 2 pts and will have to return in Jan 09 I am upset but now I have to figure out what I am going 2 do.

3rd Semester exams and clinicals are brutal.... I suspect that 4th semester is no picnic too!! I had a friend who started the ADN program with me and studied with me for three semesters, just inform me that 3rd semester clinicals was a failure, though test exams were not too hot either... My friend will take the Final exam and plans to sign up for the LPN class this summer, but will have to repeat 3rd semester. My friend might appeal, but we both know it will not go anywhere because our instructor has lots of documented proof that my friend does not dispute.

My friend is sad because graduation won't be until next May, but has a positive attitude about the situation. My friend is hooking up with a few others who failed second semester when we took it and will now be starting 3rd semester at the end of the summer. That group had a hard time with second semester the first time around but are doing outstanding now. We both agree that if my friend studies with that group my friend will get through 3rd and 4th semester without any problems.

So, now I am all alone. I had a regular study group since first semester that has dwindled down to just me. There are a few others who come and go but the dedicated originals are no more. I will go on though... I did not come to nursing school for them... I came for myself and my family who are still with me.

BTW, just in case anyone thinks I sat by and watched people fail, that is not so. I tried to help every single one of them. Most did not listen to me when I noticed problem behaviors. In fact, the last one to fail ignored my help and warnings in clinical and is shocked at the outcome.

I have one more test to go until this summer can begin! Good luck to everyone!

Yep, here we are...graduating a week from today....
And there are plenty of people who did not apply themselves early in the semester, who had to get OUTSTANDING scores on the final just to pass. One girl actually almost failed her 36 hr preceptorship because she didn't do any work at all!
My friend missed passing by 2 points.....and she missed a quiz because she went to the Kaplan review early for help on our exit HESI. that quiz turned out to be what failed her.....It's rough, but I always had a "open" study group policy. anyone was welcome, but only one fellow classmate took me up on it ALL 4 semesters....and she firmly believes that why she passed. (her parents too...they asked her what to get me for graduation! LOL) I believe that if someone wants to be a nurse badly enough, they will do WHATEVER it takes....

I agree; you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you need to get!

We lost between 12-15 people after 2nd semester. One of them was a girl I'd become friendly with recently; she joined our study group and was wonderful. I don't know if it was a matter of test taking or not, but she failed the course by about 3 points. Then there are others who went into the final needing to get a 100% on it. You just need to build up those points early. Get the cushion you need early so that you have some wiggle room later in the semester. It always hurts when friends don't succeed. But as the above poster says... you'll do what you need to do.

It's really tough when you have people you like not pass, but everyone is ultimately responsible for their own successes and failures.

As one of the posters mentioned, get that cushion early so that when it comes to the final the pressure is lowered. If you have worked hard all along, chances are you'd get a good grade on the final; if however, you didn't do well all along, you are also most likely to do the same on the final.

Wow! 12 - 15 people?! Maybe its just me, but that seems like a lot. We lost maybe 5 in our class of 45. Most missing by a small fraction of a percentage. Thats scary...

I agree with the cushion part...I was "comfortably" getting a B and only needed a 32/100 to pass the class on the final. Some people went in needing an 82, an 89 and a 95. I dont know bout you, thats not the kind of pressure I could handle...

wow it's so hard to see people fail..I'm finishing up my 2nd semester (ADN) and we've lost quite a few people...one just the other day...makes you appreciate and want to hang in there!
