Re: Just found out friend failed 3rd

We started my LPN class with 206 and are now at 180. Twenty failed and the rest had other issues.

I agree with the cushion part...I was "comfortably" getting a B and only needed a 32/100 to pass the class on the final. Some people went in needing an 82, an 89 and a 95. I dont know bout you, thats not the kind of pressure I could handle...
I agree with you; it IS a lot. Most of them went in to the final needing mid 90's, and it just wasn't going to happen that way. It's too bad. We have a good program, and we admit 100 students each fall. I think now, going into 3rd semester, we have about 40. Plus, whomever comes in from previous classes. To me, it is very important to build up those points as quickly as possible. That "wiggle room" can be enough to make or break one's chances of success.

Re: Just found out friend failed 3rd

I just went throught the same thing, my best friend flunked med pass on the last day of clinicals, I am heart broken for him, we went through pre reqs and both semester of clinicals together. I couldn't believe it, he knew the meds, but he just made a stupid mistake. I will miss him but he will be a semester behind me, If i pass the finals which are 50% of the grade,

Re: Just found out friend failed 3rd

I just found out that I passed 3rd semester. Although my friend didn't make it, I'm feeling great that I did. Thank you to all who posted here and left their pearls of support.

Yes it is hard, but you just have to be very proactive about your education. Study and stay on top of the reading, after each test go see your instructor to see where you are struggling, join a study group if that works for you (don't if it doesn't), and keep on top of your performance from the beginning of the semester to make sure you have that wiggle room. Also, talk yourself up before tests and skill checkoffs, a positive mantra will help you succeed! A lot of nursing is self taught as far as head knowledge is concerned so be your best teacher!

Re: Just found out friend failed 3rd

I know I'm going to lose a classmate in a couple days after final exam. It is hard. I've grown close to her.

I can see myself next semester distancing myself from those who are borderline students. It's too hard to get close to them just to see them fail and be gone. How sad is that?

Re: Just found out friend failed 3rd

Same here. I am finishing up my 2nd semester. We are down to 40 from about 75 and there are a few people that are on the edge. Our school lets you fail one course. You can just retake that as soon as you can. If you fail another, you are out. There are maybe 15 people that are in that spot.

I am scared of Med Surg II and III. I am going to spend the summer studying for it.
