I have to say that I am lucky that I decided to go to Nursing school in March and by May was accepted. I thought I would have the summer off to relax and get some loose ends tied up around the house. But...everyday I have to run here or there to get something done for school.

I know what you mean! I too jumped through so many hoops. I started school back in 2003, and by the time I was on our eligibility list, they changed their reqs, so had to do more. Then once I was called, I had to get all my checks, physicals, paperwork, and so on done. I start 9/4 this fall. I am so excited! Sadly for the new people coming in after me, they have changed the program again, so they have much more to do than I did! I wish they would quit! LOL
As for your TB testing, I see they told you a 2-step also. I have never heard of that! I had just the regular TB and they were fine, but a girl who got in after me, she was told the same thing. Hope I don't have to do this again! I'm not quite sure why they want 2 done, do you?
GL to you!

the nurse at the health dept said that the 2nd step is to see if you have a reaction to more TB. She said she knew I wouldn't have a reaction cause I have had many tests over the years come back negative. But the program chair said 2-step (I had never heard of it either) was required unless you could prove a negative test every year for like 3 years (healthcare workers that have to be tested every year).

I'm totally there with you! I also start nursing school on Aug. 20. I had to get my CNA this summer, get financial aid squared away ( still doing that), Tb, tetnus, physical, blood work, etc. , order uniforms and shoes, pay testing fees before enrollment, oh I'm sure there's more! It's a busy time getting all these papers ran here and there! But hey! At least we are not sitting around at home and going out of our mind waiting for classes to start. Well, maybe I am doing that a little. I am too exited!

I can definitely relate to your situation ,I feel I will soon go nuts while trying to prepare for nursing school, Every week is something new, I still have to get my Cpr card, I didnt even buy health insurance yet...so therefore Im unable to register for nursing classes and because of that I cant apply for the alternative loans cause I dont have my tuition bill, then I still dont know If my school will help me with bills or give me student loans, ..so my classes begin the 20th and I dont even have financial supplies that I need, on top of that my boss decided to cut my hours at work cause I cant be there some of the mornings due to my med.term class so I can definitely relate, good luck

mystiqx,
Just know that you aren't alone!!! Even though I know my start date and some of the info (like book list and orientation schedule) the rest is unknown!! My good friend is starting LVN classes a week after I start for my ADN, and she has orientation on Monday. I don't have orientation until August 15th, and classes start the 20th. Does that even make sense? I think they just like torturing us!!!
I did have my Tb test come back positive, which I had never experienced before. But I knew that it would, because the day after I was tested, my arm started itching like crazy, and even though I knew not to scratch, there were times that I couldn't help it!! So when I went to have it read, it read positive. I had to have chest scans done, which came back negative, so they did another Tb test, and luckily this time it came back negative. I was told by my doctor and the school clinic doc to not get another Tb test, that I would need to have chest scans from now on, so when they wanted me to do another Tb test, I was a little nervous. But, it worked out. I also had to have the dreaded MMR vaccine, and a tetanus to finsh up all the shots!!
Now I just need to get my CPR recertification and I will be good to go!! I hope!!
Good luck to all~

yeah i did get all the med clearance info the other day and i filled out everything. The beauty of working at my hospital is that I got all my vaccines already, MMR titers, Hep B, Varecella, the whole works just gotta do the tetanus shot. Ive gotten positive PPD too years back, but I have the BCG, i was told to not to get any more PPD's and just get chest scans but they said having a BCG doesnt exempt me from PPD tests on the info they sent so I'm not sure what will happen.
This whole waiting thing sucks, not even an orientation date and I'm a little worried cause my fantastic uncle is buying me tickets to spend a week in Barbados for carnival in August (woohoo, yeah it seems that I'm still celebrating getting into NS, first Spain now the Caribbean lol) So anyway I hope they get their stuff out soon, I would hate that they scheduled me to do things while I'm away.

mystiqx!!!
First Spain, now Barbados?!? Wow, it must be nice!! Is this a "going home" type of trip for you? I saw in a previous post that you were originally from the Caribbean. Wow, you gave all that up for New York?!? I went on a cruise to the Caribbean a couple of years ago, and am just waiting/dreaming to go back. It was absolutely gorgeous!! The people were all so nice and friendly, and the laid-back atmosphere made me forget all my worries back home. That is until my 4 children called me!!! Haha!
Okay, do we need to band together to send good vibes your way to hear from school about classes and orientation??? You know that we are good about things like that!!! We can start a new thread entitled "Sending vibes to Mystiqx for school!!!"
So you don't even know when classes actually start? Wow, that is kind of unsettling. It does make it difficult to plan any last minute trips, doesn't it?
Well, I am sending good vibes your way and a big hug too. Hopefully you will hear something soon. If not, guess you will just have to pick up the phone and hound them!!!

Yes this is definitely a "going home" trip, haven't been there since 2003 when my cousin passed. I was born in London and my gran raised me in B'dos and then I came here to live. Its only cool for vacation, I was never really happy living there, I was always a different sort of kid, different sort of attitude and mentality towards life, so I never really fit in.
Well good vibes are always nice, I'm sure they'll send stuff out soon enough I'm just being impatient lol. It'd be a little ridiculous to accept all these students and then don't tell us when to show up lol wouldn't that be a sight.
