Concerns - Jumped waay too high??
|
|
I started school 2 weeks ago, and already feeling sick and tired, and overwhelmed, snapping at my husband, and all that nice stuff. I work FT, various shifts, sometimes graveyard, sometimes 4-12. And I am taking 16 credits, including the most difficult AP and AP lab, English, Comp. Med terminology. I have classes everyday Monday through Friday, and work 5 days a week.
I guess I am trying to figure out...if I should go half-load, and take some classes in the Spring. My plan and goal was to be done with all prereqs, so I can have a chance to starts NS in the Spring 2008. Otherwise, it will have to be Fall 2008.
I graduated from college 3 years ago with great grades, but I was not working FT. Now I have to work to pay bills, and etc. So, quitting my job is not really an option. My husband seeing me falling asleep every time I sit down...suggested to not hurry, and just take AP and Lab this semester.....and really devote myself to this subject. He is concerned about my health, and i would be too.
I don't know if I should toughen up...and risk having so so grades, or even failing AP, or drop the rest...and concentrate on AP. English, comp, and med terminology I can handle in one semester, they are, combined, not as difficult and time consuming as AP.
So......I guess I just wanted some thoughts...maybe somebody has gone through similar experience....?

It sounds as though you are stressed and that you have a lot on your plate...I would suggest maybe lessening your load. It won't save you any time if you have to retake classes to get admitted to a nursing program.
Good Luck!

Especially if it's only going to push you back until fall, I'd drop Eng and Med Term. You need to keep your grades up to get admitted (probably) and definitely need to pass. Also, you don't want to get so burned out that you either don't make it all the way through NS or you run your body down so far that you get really sick and have to drop out. Are you going to have to work full time during NS too? People do it, but none of them have an easy time of it. If you're this stressed in prereqs, you might want to start thinking seriously about taking out enough loans/husband picking up hours or a PT job so you can at least cut your hours and focus on school. Tell him you'll work OT when you graduate to make it up to him. Good luck to you, just drop the classes and focus on doing well in what you do take and taking care of yourself.

Thanks for support
During NS I probably will only work 20 hours or less, and husband knows that, but right now I have to work.
I am thinking of keeping AP and AP Lab, and English (English is not that difficult), and take Med term and comp next semester. Talked to DH last night, he keeps telling that we are not in a hurry, I don't have to rush into anything.....so instead of Spring 08 I will start Fall 08, it's not a big deal....that's his advice.
I feel better after I pored my concerns here. thanks....

I think your husband has the right idea--take one class with its lab and concentrate on that.
Most people would not be able to handle even one class along with working a full load of swing shifts, plus remain upright and make sense!
I applaud your desire to meet your goals--and I'm sure you will get there, but it does sound like you are pretty miserable the way things are right now.
And even if that gets you to nursing faster, it's not any way to live!
Be good to yourself, take it a wee bit slower, and smell the occasional flower along the way.

I see a lot of people trying to take on too much at the same time who end up doing a poor job of most of it. I strongly recommend slowing down a bit and focusing on quality -- NOT speed.

What about taking your English as an online course? That's what I'm doing, and it's much easier to schedule things when I don't have to be anywhere at a specific time. If that's not possible for you, then I would definatly cut back! You don't want to get burn out before you even get into nursing classes!
Have a Great Day!
