Hi, it's a pleasure to meet y'all! This is my 1st post, although I've perused this board for the past month. I can't tell you how helpful and informative allnurses.com has been. Y'all are a great bunch of people
My name is Chantel, "Buttercup" is my favorite Powerpuff girl! I live in Decatur, GA (just outside of Atlanta). I'm single, share a house with one of my best friends from highschool, and have a really cool cat named Charlie. Nursing will be a 2nd career. I've been in banking for the past 13 yrs, but have been dissatisfied with it for awhile.
In March '01, my baby brother sustained a broken back/leg & nerve damage from a MVA. We were fortunate to have wonderful nurses & PT's that made a difference in his recovery. I thought how wonderful it must be to make that kind of difference in someone's life and contemplated changing careers to nursing. However, I made excuses why I should stay in my current job.
This past April, I was told that my job would be phased out in Feb '02.

I knew this was a sign. As a freshman in 1983, my major had been physical therapy, and I've always regretted changing it. So I felt this was the push, or shall I say shove?

that I needed to make a commitment to a nursing career.
I have quite a few pre-reqs before I can begin...Chemistry, Statistics, A & P I and II, Microbiology & Abnormal Psych.

However, I must work until Feb 20, '03 to get my severence pkg.

So I'm volunteering in the ICN/SCN at a local hospital and plan to start pre-req's in Jan '03.
Anyhoo, I've enjoyed getting to know you all via these posts. Now that I've gotten over my initial shyness, I plan on participating frequently. The best of luck to you all!
