Re: Introductions:"New" and "Old" Students.

Hi, I'm 24-yrs old and will graduate with a BSN this Fall I WILL one day be in administration level and make great changes for the nursing profession in California.
I want to be a nurse advocate and a voice for nurses in the political arena.
With experience in time, the sky's the limit. To be a consumer of research is expected of all nurses, but to actually want to be a part of that change is where I hope to be.
In present time, I am aiming to work in the ICU, Med-Surg, or OR.
Nursing education and nursing profession is controversial in context of where it is currently heading and why it is currently heading that way. I won't say anything further, but GOOD LUCK to everyone and I hope to learn a lot from you all and share in my experiences with you too.

Re: Introductions:"New" and "Old" Students.

Hi Everyone! I just found this discussion board today and I'm already addicted! I'm 26 years old and have recently decided to make a career change to nursing. I have a BS and MS degree in Accounting and have worked in the field for 3 years. I'm still making final decisions between an ASN or BSN acclerated program. Either way I will start my pre-reqs in Jan or May of 08. Very excited for this journey! Nice to meet all of you.

I am currently an electrician working toward an RN certificate in a part-time 3 year program. There are @ 40 women and about 7 men in my program including me. I just started in September, so far I am having a blast.

Re: Introductions:"New" and "Old" Students.

Hi everyone! My name is Jen and I'm a 24 yo student. I recently transferred from a community college to Queens University in Charlotte where I will be pursuing my ASN. I CAN'T WAIT! I've been waiting on this oppertunity for a long time and I intend to get everything possible out of the experience. My short term goal is obviously graduating but my long term plans involve critical care. I am highly interested in flight nursing and the burn unit so any help in this area would be great! It's nice to meet you all and I'm so glad I found this site BEFORE school starts next year!

Re: Introductions:"New" and "Old" Students.

Hello! Name's Mike and I'm a 28 y/o geographer/mapmaker who's been in the pre-pharm program since Fall 06 but decided recently to go into pre-nursing instead. I only have some 5 courses left before finishing up (A/P I & II, Nutrition, Chem II, & Nutrition) and am looking to eventually get my MSN and be a Nurse Practitioner Hope to see everyone around!

Hi QQ, I am in Massachusetts at a community college. I don't what to say about OB unless you have a specific question, only that I think the second year is more straightforward (I don't want to say easier) than the first year. Unless OB is your thing, or you have had a baby and experience to draw from, you just have to get through it. Good luck!

Talking Hi everyone:)

Hey everyone OK heres my thing, Iam not a nurse just yet, but it is something I truly want to do. Since a young age, I have always been just fascinated when doctors and nurses help the sick, but I also knew about death at a young age as well. The ADN program at the community college here in Rochester Ny has a waiting list, so I dont know what else to do.
I had heard that some experience is beneficial and preferred, so Iam looking into becoming a LPN in the mean time, and then going on to BSN. I cannot express the excitment I feel just thinking about nursing, and helping the sick, the happy, and people in general.
A little about myself, Iam 27, and I have been married to a wonderful and supportive man for two years now, we have to beautiful boys together. I had majored in accounting for a year, but found myself very bored, but I held a 3.6 GPA.
Iam so driven and independent from a young age, and know what I want in life. When I applied for nursing years ago, the course was full, and I just couldnt go anyways bc of daycare and transportation. Now I can go pt for the LPN bc that is two days a week and on sat. That works better for me But heres the kicker, I do want to become a RN one day..Id prefer to go right into the RN..but I also know I dont have experience in health care besides volunteering as kid in girl scouts, in a nursing home. I can tell u this, I knew back then I wanted to help others...whether it be rejoicing, or with their family in pain...I want to be a support system for another. So nursing is right for me, I feel compassion for it in my heart, and the will runs through my soul Nice to meet you all!!!!
