I am Jess. Wife and mother to three daughters. I live in Missouri and worked my butt off to be accepted into a nursing school my first try - and it paid off. I was accepted in July for Spring 2008, ASN. I have been a NA on/off for 11 years and enjoyed it.

I've taken 3 semesters at my local community college to get as many "general" classes as I could out of my way before entering the program and I have successfully taken all that is needed - so when in NS I will have only nursing courses to take.

My expected graduation date is July 2010 (seems so far away!!).

I currently work PT at the community college I attended. I work in the testing area giving make-up exams and placement exams. Very non-stressful and easy going. I would like to go into mental health when I graduate - but that remains to be seen - may change my mind when the time comes.

Hi, my name is Shana. I am 25 years old. I will be starting a BSN program in January 2008. I am finishing up my last two prereq classes this semester. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. My expected graduation date is December 2009.

I can officially more over here now from the "pre-nursing" board. I got my letter yesterday and will be starting the spring 08 semester finishing up in 12/09!

I am very excited. I have 3 kids 8,8 and 10 a dog and a very supportive husband. I am so excited to begin this journey. I started taking my pre reqs in fall of 04 and have been slowly pecking away through life and school and I can't believe I finally made it this far!

Hello, my name is Carrie I'm from Michigan, wife for 6 years to Paul, mother to a 3 year old little girl name Emily. I started nursing school Sept. 24th and just recently started clinicals. I'm so happy to be in nursing school, I was accepted on the 3 try. As soon as I graduated I'm planning on going for my bacheors, then Masters to become a NP. My name is Sarah and I am not yet a nursing student, but plan to be soon. I am in school, taking generals so that I can apply in the fall. I am so nervous about applying I get sick just thinking about it. The good news is that I have dozens of nurses all around me to keep me hyped.

Stephanie, never feel like you can't do something, there is always a way to get through, even if you have to take it again, or hire a tutor. I would hire the tutor in most all cases. I think when you are in the middle of the environment you will sink or swim and you know the odds are in your favor, you can do it.
Time management, good note taking are the two most important things. Not having fear in clinical settings...just do it. The patients don't know you are trembling inside.
When I was a student I avoided giving the shots like the plague. I finally had to give one last semester..a skill that has to be performed. That patient had a fat arm so I was in luck.
After that I started giving shots at a doctors office, probably thousands now. I give good shots and there is always an exception to the rule. Like giving an IM on a skinny old man with a lack of muscle...you use a 5/8 needle not an im needle or you will hit the bone. Sometimes the doctors office has the nice needles but the hospitals have a choice of two to save money so you do the best with what you have.
What I feared I became proficient in. Where you work you will develop skills for that job, if you move to another area...new skills again. Never think you can't do it. If you learned to walk and talk...you can do it...and you will get in eventually. Just during the interview make sure to know what you will say, practice in the mirrow. Tell them how you maintained a good average and worked also, or babysat your sister's kids, or better yet took care of your sick grandfather...you CAN multitask, etc. That you know you can do it. Don't put yourself down, don't talk about fear, or weaknesses.
You can do this, if you ever have a stupid question, embarrased to ask anyone, you can always ask me....I will tell you or find out and tell you a good resource.
