I am from Rockford and I currently go to Northern Illinois University, and i think schools are pretty full here too. We had about 950 people apply for 60 spots at NIU. I dont know about COD, but at the school where I did my prereqs, Rock Valley College in Rockford, they looked at your overall GPA, but they took your anatomy, micro, and chemistry grades into consideration about as much as the overall GPA. you can call the different community colleges and they can tell you what they consider. maybe you could take a class or two over to bring up your GPA if necessary.

I am finishing up at an ADN program at triton college near chicago and it took me awhile to get in but it wasn't that competitive. We started out with about 70 openings too. I know instances where it helps to have to a BA to get into the program and I was finishing one which was good, becuase it one up'ed me with speech and english. etc..... but I didn't have a strong science background so I had to take chem, anatomy, physiology, micro bio, and i think that was it.... the process was as follows...
1. Attend an information session about nursing program...tons of people show up it's just so they can get your name in thier file.
2. See a councelor about taking the right courses they are looking for....
3. Take an entrance exam with basic math, english, reading skills. Do well on this test..it helps your chances.
4. Nursing school contaced me in a year and a half after I started taking courses at the college that I could eb admitted in the fall of the following year if my health requirments were met up to standards. (More titers then I have ever had in my life........I think they tested for syphillis too!! Crazy)
5. The nursing department was good about keeping tabs on who was getting closer and closer to thier requirments.
I would say the road to it was difficult maybe just long, almost four years for an associates degree because of the waiting.....goodluck..........

I only had to apply once at the information session. It's a good program. I don't remember having to do any more then that and then I just had to wait all those science courses I took before getting in a lot of people did while in the program which was kind of good because then i didn't have to worry about the extra workload. I haven't heard anythimg about the numbers increasing although I am sure they are.

Hi, I am currently completing my third semester at Moraine Valley Community Collegge in Palos Hills. It is an AWESOME program, they did have 500 people apply and only take 50, however it is on a point system, you get points for grades (gpa) and how many classes you have already taken, If you have all your prereq's you would probably score pretty high with points I have included my email if you have any questions. I am so passionate about this program and nursing I would love to hear from you. Good Luck on your quest. Just an FYI, you really need to look at the NClex pass rates of schools I have been hearing through the grapevine that some programs are having very low pass rates.

Triton's Pass Rate is 100%!!!!
thats probably why we only have 30 graduates out of 72 that began the program............
