In one of our class in jurisprudence, my teacher asked us if we care for our patients. My answer was and also echoing at my back a dozen of open mouths saying of course I care and always will care for my pateint's welfare. I said something like I will not shout at my patient nor treat them less because I am a good nurse. But i realized now, I am a human being with limitations especially with my temper. I know it is not one of the qualities that a nurse should have but the thing is I already have this before I enrolled to nursing. So I need time to change.
Why did my teacher asked that question? I would say that it is an important question faced by incoming nurses and veteran nurses. That question will have an impact on how you will become a nurse. Would you want to be a primary nurse or a robot nurse?
In our country when indigent patients seek help in goverment hospitals, they tend to be shouted at in a demeaning manner. Yes! you read it right! When I was a student I emphatize with the patients. For me, what they did was rude and out of line. But now given in our curremt situations, I also understand those nurses. Becasue they are underpaid and they have to deal with numerous patients who are sometimes stubborn and annoying.
Well, now that i have already passed the local board and soon to be working in the hospital, I hope I could stretch my patience for my patient's sake.
