The military is paying for a good part of my college. I am working full time and my SC will be picking up extra hours to help out. I worked a lot of overtime to pay off my bills and put money into saving for when I have clinicals and will not be able to work full time.
I did a lot of preplanning for this.

Don't mean to hijack the thread....but for those of you with Stafford loans (or anyone who knows). Are Stafford loans big on the credit thing? Our credit has really suffered over the last couple years and I haven't even applied for a loan because of that. Someone told me that it doesn't weigh a lot Is that true?

Unfortunately, according to the government I'm a hair too "rich" for federal/financial aid, and unable to qualify for a lot of the school's scholarships despite my grades because...wait for it...they're also based on need. The curse of being middle class strikes again.

Fortunately, the tuition isn't too bad, so I have been able to swing it, though it's taking some heavy adjustments to my home budget. It's worth it though, to be able to graduate without any student loans this time around--it took me 11 years to pay off the last set.

Good old fashion working, lol. I did a min of 30 hours a week through LPN and RN school so I didn't end with any debt or have to use my savings.

Me too. 1 semester of college = approx. 1.5 weeks of pay. Mind you it is a CC. A couple of my coworkers are using loans but ugh. Life is hard enough without owing Uncle Sam.

My dear, sweet Mother-in-law gave me a full ride scholarship, basically. I'll be able to just take care of my home and husband and go to school. (Well, Ihave to do some work here on the farm, but it's not too bad). I feel very very lucky!

What???? WOW! what job did YOU have before going into nursing?????
i only make 1500/month, and with rent (in Miami), car, car insurance, credit card bill, internet, phone, utilities, food (no restaurants), and student loan payoff from unused bachelor's degree, I've got NOTHING left to pay for school......

however, when i filled out my FAFSA, they calculated my expected contribution to be 8,000 smackers!!! how do ya figure????? that's over a third of my income!!!!!! i'm a pretty frugal gal, too....no movies/dvds/dining out/travel budget here......just the basics.

sigh.
hopefully i get some loans, despite this calculation. i'm a little anxious about it. i intend to work part-time, but that only covers some of my expenses, not including tuition and books. not eligible for scholarships: i'm white, female, and have a job, and no kids, so i'm not exactly a unique nursing demographic....LOL

good luck to you all
