Question Question? - How much chem for BSN?

So I am a new NS this fall in an ADN program. But I am planning on eventually going onto earning a BSN. A very basic chem 100 program was the minimum requirement for this ADN prog. I did that and passed with a B, but still felt not so confident in chemistry . I do know that further Chem courses will be needed later for the BSN. But from some of my initial research, I see not all progs require 101 as a prereq for entry into the higher chem courses. 100 seems to be good enough (?). I am uncertain, but if it isn't needed , would anyone experienced suggest taking 101 anyway? maybe just based on my confidence I should? TIA any n all

Check with the BSN program you're looking at. I know around here many BSN programs don't require any additional chemistry than the ADN programs (actually, the ADN programs don't require it either, buy my school required a 100 level chem class as a prereq to A&P).

Re: How much chem for BSN?

All the BSN programs in my area require 1000 level Chem courses. The ADN's require none, or a lower level one, but for the BSN, you have to take the higher level one.

1000 level? My school only has 100 level (Intro/non/science major), 200 (General Chemistry-science major chem) level, 300 level and 400 level (upper level courses for chemistry majors or minors such as a year of organic chemistry or biochemistry).....where would 1000 fit in?

Re: How much chem for BSN?

For my acceptance to NS I had to take "Intro to Organic and Biochem". This was all that is needed for our program.

It depends upon what the school feels is important to represent their name and reputation. The university that I went to had an upper division organic chemistry lecture class that was required for our BSN program. The only way of knowing what you will be required to take is by looking at the school requirements where you plan to go and then preparing for it.

I was required to take General Chemistry, but some schools, from what I have heard require Chem 2, Biochem, and sometimes Organic Chem.....just depends

I had to take a full year, General Chemistry and Organic/Biological Chemistry. It added to 8 total hours (3 lecture and 1 lab = 4 hours total each semester).

Re: How much chem for BSN?

It depends on the school that you r going 2go4 your BSN. Keep in mind that when you inquire about certain chem courses that are required by the BSN school you are going2, the chem requirements might change from 1semester to another. The BSN program that I will be attending requires organic/biochemistry and intro to inorganic chemistry, but a BSN program here in town only requires the lecture portion for Intro Inorganic Chemistry.

Re: How much chem for BSN?

For my BSN program, we didn't need to take Chemistry at all. I heard that we were the only university in the country who doesn't require their nursing students to take it.. which is strange.
