I am currently in semester 3 of 5 (Adult Health II); summer session. Of course our 1st exam is the tuesday after the memorial day weekend. Also I have an oral presentation due right after the exam. We do have monday off which is good but only b/c one more day to study and prepare my presentation. Why do they always schedule tests/papers/etc after a so called holiday break? I guess I am just mad/jealous that everyone else gets to have a "break" when we all know that us nursing students need it more than them! My fiance even had the nerve to invite me last night (can we say last minute) to go to his friends lakehouse w/him. Which obvously I could never go d/t aforementioned and I have to work sat/sun. Just wanted to vent to some people that might actually understand

You are in nursing school!! You aren't going to get any sympathy from me--I'm in an LPN to RN bridge program with a major assignment due on the 28th, AND I'm working Sat-Mon night. Hospitals don't close for the holidays.

Maybe you'll be lucky enough to get a job in some setting that closes for weekends and holidays. Until then, suck it up, eat some BBQ, have a good (brief!!) time with your family, and then hit the books. If you're fiance is out of town, all the better--less distraction!

I do know what you mean--it's hard to have to work when it seems like everyone else is off. When you are working three 12 hour shifts, though, and you are off four days a week while "everyone else" only gets 2 days a week off, you might be the happy one!

Not sure that you're going to get a lot of understanding. A) Welcome to nursing school, and B) Welcome to nursing......unless you get a clinic job nursing is a 24/7 profession and holidays are just like any other day. You will be working your fair share of them. My children know that Christmas and birthdays may or may not be celebrated on the actual days.

On Tuesday I have a final, test on a chapter we were lectured on wens day about and a power point presentation to give on cushings disorder.

Theres no such thing as "Holiday" in the nursing profession. Im pretty sure that on most units you either have thanksgiving or Christmas that year. Just keep your nose to the grind stone!

P.s. Id rather be a nurse, able to work anywhere in the world I want, with considerate pay, and unlimited job openings, and have no holidays, then work 9-5 at some deskjob...

I'm with you. I have a test tuesday morning. I have to work 3-ll all weekend including monday night, and I probably won't get out until after 12. I also have an assignment due monday for an online class. My family will be celebrating with out me too. Hang in there you don't have much longer. It is frustrating, but theres always next time. Be glad that you have an extra day to study.

And enjoy being home for the holiday because like the above posters I think that unless you are working in a clinic or doctors office you will be working every other "minor" holiday like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, as well as alternating Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, day before Thanksgiving/Thanksgiving Day, New Years Eve/New Years Day for a long time.

Finals start for us on Tuesday. We have a Med/surg final on Tuesday morning at 9am. Review for PFCH after that. Wed we have PFCH final at 8am and Maternity final at 10am. We have had test after test for the last 2 weeks. But, one more qtr. to go. Can't believe 4th qtr. is here.

I feel your pain. I'm working 10 hours today, 10 hours tomorrow, 4 hours Monday, and oh yeah I got TWO tests on Tuesday that I need to be studying for! Sometimes, nursing school SUCKS, but hey, what can you do? Only 6 & 1/2 more months till graduation!!!

Isn't that when all your tests are anyway? If you are in a summer session, it would make sense to have a test every week or at least every other week.

I am going to be in summer school and taking two classes at about 5 weeks a piece. I'm assuming we have one test a week because we have 3 tests and one final plus the ATI. I also assume it will be on Mondays because we go Mon-Thurs. and this gives us the weekend to study.

Seems pretty normal to me.

In LPN school we have a test every class period. The amount of information is sometimes just so overwhelming and you HAVE to learn it. So even on my days "off" I am going back to chapters I was tested on weeks ago to make sure I still "got it."

No one said nursing school was easy ^^
