Question? - Hiv

I have a friend girl who have moved back to my home town, and is interested in going to school to become a nurse. I myself have just started. Anyway a few months ago she found out that her cheating boyfriend gave her the HIV virus, my question is, can she still go to school to be a nurse?

Re: Hiv

Yes. Her infection with HIV is private and protected by HIPPA. It would have no bearing on her ability to go to school.

You are right (where I'm from anyway). Because HIV is transmitted sexually and through blood, there is no reason why she could not become a nurse (unless she's going to be caring for clients with a big cut and no gloves or having sex with her clients).
Very valid question though. I can see why you brought it up.

Of course she can! What should we do? Lock her away her in a place for people with HIV and AIDS? They did that with leprosy (Hanson's Disease) back in Biblical times!

It's too bad that these things happen to people, but safe sex practices have been very widely taught for some time now, so your "friend girl" has some responsibility to bear in this as well as "her cheating boyfriend".
