Question Help, I just can't decide

Hello,

I recently got accepted into the nursing accelerated BSN program for both Johns Hopkins University and University of Rochester. I can't seem to pick between the two. I like Rochester, because they have about 7 weeks break and the program is $45,000 oppose to $80,000. However, JHU from what I heard is a really great school and perhaps even better than Rochester. Which school should I attend? Thanks...

Unfortunately this is a question that none of us can answer for you... the best program is really what is best for YOU. Where will you be happiest? Is one closer to family/friends than the other? Do you have a gut feeling about where you really want to be? It's a tough decision, to be sure, but I am sure you will make the right one. Good luck!

I wish I could give you advice but i'm in the same boat! I just found out today that I got into Johns Hopkins accelerated program...and I got into Univ of Rochester as well. I have already accepted at NYU's accelerated program and was pretty happy about that decision until I found out about Johns Hopkins...now i'm not as sure! Cost is a big part of the decision- yet, they are all so darn expensive! For me, I already know that I plan to go on to get a masters maybe after working for a year or so- and that is also impacting my decision as Johns Hopkins is the number 1 research university in the country...could open a lot of doors in terms of choice of grad programs.
I have a friend who is in the Univ of Rochester accelerated program right now and she told me that if she would have had more choices, she would have gone somewhere else- but, that being said, she has never gone anywhere else! So, it's all pretty subjective...
Arggghh...I guess in reality, we are lucky that we have to make a decision like this! I'd love to hear more about what you are thinking! Good luck deciding!

-Julie

I heard JHU is the best. It may cost more, but in the end it maybe worth it.

Re: Help, I just can't decide

Well if you are planning on going to grad school possibly at the same place you should consider what programs are available to pay for your tuition in that area. For example, JHH will repay your grad school tuition (100%) after each semester. They will pay for you to go to Hopkins or any school who has tuition lesser than or equal to Hopkins. It really turns out to be a great deal. I can only speak for this school as I have no experience with the other two.

Unless cost isn't a factor, I would go with the cheaper program. They're both awesome schools and in the end you'll get your degree and hopefully pass the NCLEX.
Good luck.

This is a question that nobody can answer for you except yourself. Its your life and your choice. You have to do what you feel is best for you. Have faith in God and he will help you make the best decision for yourself. Good luck!

Re: Help, I just can't decide

I applied to the same programs as you. For me the decision was Rochester. I don't know why but I really felt more at home with Rochester. I understand JH is a great school but I didnt feel as comfortable with JH for some reason. I plan on gettting my masters in pediatrics and Rochester has a really great program. Also the cost of living is much cheaper (1 bedroom apt with all utitilities paid $400/month!!!), tuition cheaper, white christmas, nature and lakes so close by. Only you can decide. No matter what school you chose anyone will hire you and your salary is going to end up the same. Go with your gut. Good luck and maybe see you in the spring

Re: Help, I just can't decide

Thank you all for your responses. After considerable thoughts with my families and husband, I've decided to attend JHU. Julie, I am sorry that you have already paid for Rochester and that if you plan to attend JHU, you will not be reimbursed for that $400 you deposited.
Yes, I do plan to go back to school and earn a master after a year of working as an RN. Eventhough JHU is more expensive than Rochester, I feel that you cannot put a price on one of the best research program in the country. Thanks again and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors with the nursing field.
