Question Gen Chem and Organic Chem

I was researching different RN programs and came across two different reqs. for the nursing degree. One only req'd General Chemisty and the other Organic Chemistry in additon to Gen. I was wondering if anyone has advice as to how high I should go. I might someday want to go back to get my BSN.

Also, does anyone know if the BSN program is four years or two years...I already have my gen ed out of the way.

Thanks a bunch!

I think it depends on the state that you live in. I'm going for my BSN, and I was only required to take Gen. Chem. and the lab.

In Texas, your junior and senior years are nothing but nursing classes. You complete all of the pre-reqs (history, english, math, A&P, microbiology, psych, etc.) in your freshman and sophomore years, and then start the nursing classes in the first semester of your junior year. Some programs do allow you to finish some classes while also taking nursing classes, but most require all the general ed. classes to be finished first.

I have several friends in BSN programs, and most of them only took Gen. Chem.

I hope this helps.

Susan

Most adn programs in this city need only gen chem. I am in an adn program right now, will start nursing 1 this semester. I plan to take org chem in summer, if I can find a class, because like you, I want to continue my ed after the adn rn.

Best wishes, Christina

Re: Gen Chem and Organic Chem

The ADN program at the CC where I'm taking BSN prereqs does not require any chemistry. I think this is unusual, though.

My BSN program requires 2 semesters of General Chemistry w/lab; a total of 10 credits. Some schools require one semester, some will take ANY chemistry with lab.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Re: Gen Chem and Organic Chem

At my university here in FL for the BSN program, we needed just an Introductory Chemistry with lab. It covered some organic as well, so it seems different schools have different requirements. I'd like to go as far as organic chemistry because I'd like to apply to CRNA school in the future.
