Freaking Out

Well, I'm going through an ectopic pregnancy and missed 2 lectures and 1 lab, as well as one group study session. I have my very first test on Tuesday and I am so scared. I've been studying a lot while on bedrest, but I feel it is no match for actual lectures and some good, indepth study sessions (which I benefit greatly from).

I also have the fear that my fallopian tube will burst tonight or tomorrow, which may mean I'll have to drop this semester and hopefully be readmitted next semester.

Please encourage me!

Re: Freaking Out

I will be praying for you!! Sorry I dont have any kind of advice I can offer except maybe if you have some close friends in your class you could try to do a study session through instant messaging or if someone in your class records the lectures maybe you could arrange to borrow them to listen to before the test. As you know if any symptoms change dont waist time and go straight to the ER!!!!

Re: Freaking Out

I am sure you will do fine. So take a deep breath, remember that you have studied as much as you can, and that you have only missed 2 lectures and a lab. That will not make or break your career. I know a handful of girls from my nursing school that took a semester off-some to care for loved ones, some for major health concerns, some to have children, one to go to Hawaii (seriously, but she lied to the program director!), and some who had to take time off from school to work to pay for their education. They are all great nurses. And they all agree that taking time off was the best thing for them, because they came back even more motivated to succeed! On the ectopic pregnancy note, I assume you are under an OBGYN? Seek the care that you need. I am so sorry to hear you are going through this, especially during nursing school. As if you didn't have enough to worry about! Try to stay positive. Wishing you the best of luck!

Re: Freaking Out

Hi, I am not a nursing student yet but I have an encouraging true story.... I know of a Registered Nurse who got very ill while in her second or third semester. She ended up missing an entire week of class because she was in the hospital and on bed rest.

Like you she studied while she rested and felt like there was no way she would be able to pass her exams or make up the missing time. The instructors worked with her to make up her time and she did well on her following exam. So don't think negative, think positive!!! Good luck.
